Much as I would hate to lose Hammer, I would let him go if we used the money to get Earnshaw. Before anyway else says it, I know we have the money to buy Earnie and keep Hammer, but I fear we won't.
I dont believe we really need to sign another striker,we have enough.Earnshaw wants to play in the prem so I doubt it,and we still have Hosks,Doris,Prisken,Kabba..Bouazza and smith can play up front as well as wide,in Theory their is only 1/2 places up for grabs with King being 1st choice striker..Billy sharp is the only one I would go for.
Earnshaw makes the most sense - though there did appear to be a weak Kenny Miller rumour that would be of big interest were it true. However my favourite option would be to lose Hendo and Kabba and bring in Earnshaw, H and a player of experience like Radzinski, or Gallen.
We certainly have quantity, but not quality. Smith up front, are you 'avin' a laff? Is 'e 'avin' a laff?
We are fine with what we have... Doris - scored 15 in the Champ even though he was out for approx 3 months before Christmas. King - Nothing need be said Priskin - Has obvious talent and is a natural finisher, just needs to sort out his work ethic. Is not even 21 yet. Hoskins - Haven't seen much but scored as much as as Sharp in League 1 and is the same age (just 21). What's the point of spending more money a player of similar quality. Kabba - Is good but lazy as hell so pretty much a write-off in my eyes. Ashikodi - younger than Hoskins and has looked impressive on a loan spell before breaking a leg. Bouazza - Plays on the wing normally but was our top scorer in the Prem so can play up front and score. We have 2 proven strikers at this level, 3 with bags of potential all 21 and under; then we have a winger that can play upfront capable of scoring goals. I just don't see a need to spend money and potentially waste some of the potential quality we have coming through.
Im not saying we should play Smith upfront but if all the strikers are out then he is another option as he has played that role before, same as Bouazza. King is quality,Doris improved his all round game last term, and Prisken showed last season that he has it.
I've got to wonder whether Smith will score for us again. I mean, he is an attack minded winger, and as abysmal as he has always been as a striker, it must only be a matter of time? I want him to score
