    For £500,000

0017: Stoke City have swooped in a massive last-gasp fashion to sign Sheffield Wednesday's talented young midfielder Glenn Whelan for £500,000.

It would be nice to know if Aidy actually prefers Eustace over Whelan?

Personally, I think Whelan is the better player, younger and less injury prone. Pulis obviously agrees.

Were we after Whelan, if so why did he choose Stoke?

I bet we never find out the answer to these question but we move on. At least we have signed a central holding / disruptive midfielder and i am pleased about that.

Good luck John Eustace - prove your old boss wrong.

I think that's the crux of the matter. Whelan, from what I've read, is the creative type while Eustace is the holding/disruptive type. We desperately need a 'Eustace' type player to hold the midfield together.

I have to presume that Williams, when fit, will be the player to provide the passing & vision in the central position and seeing him paired with Eustace is something I'm looking forward to.

Who says Whelan chose Stoke? Could it not be that Stoke went in for him after we stole their captain?

We probably weren't even in him when he signed for them.

JJ is crap, Willo is crap, Bang Bang spends most of his time injured but is hard as a concrete rottweiler.

    :)

Tis true. O'Toole may or may not become a good midfielder, time will tell. He may also be useful now as an impactp layer to charge into the box. One thing is certain in my eyes though and that is he is nowhere near good enough to be starting.

Williamson to his credit does at least try and play the ball 'properly', but usually it fails. And adding to the fact he is pretty useless in most other areas of footballing, I stand by my statement. I know you like him though, so feel free to list me all the cutting, incisive passes he has made in the last 6 months, or the hard, no nonsense challenges?

That was with out a doubt one of the funniest challenges I've ever seen.

I was speaking to a mate about Williamson's lack of aggression since 'that' challenge, it seems that incident has taken a lot out of his game! I think Aidy must have told him to stop lunging in. He did this before he got sent-off aswell. He could have been sent-off at Leicester and Wolves at the start of the season too.

He's not been the same player since, IMO.

Agree with that 100%. I reckon Aidy's definitely had a word. Shame really because although he might get sent off once every 10 games or so, the rest of the time he'd be battering the opposition. Right now he doesn't seem to know what to do for the best.
