Any gamers on here purchased a steamdeck, got mine a week ago and been quite impressed with it so far
Paid my £4 and on October's waiting list. Just entranced by it as one of the hockey Dads had one - I immediately ordered the highest spec model only to discover that his was the lowest spec model so I'm really looking forward to it.
I reserved on a whim as I haven’t really played games for a long time (especially on a pc) , absolute game changer for me chance to play some fairly modern games (I have downloaded and am playing gears 4 / horizon 5 / fifa 22 )when I have 10 mins between things. I had no idea fifa had become so realistic , I played as Watford , my defence was ****, the strikers kept going offside and I lost in the last 2 mins - the detail they put into these games is amazing I have stuck windows on it, joined Xbox pc game pass which seams a really good deal
I know they're fairly old titles - but the Steam bundles are crazy prices eg: bioshock remastered + bioshock 2 remastered + bishock infinite for £7.99... Being a D&D saddo their prices for Baldur's Gate are really good.
As I'm a LINUX saddo (as well) I strongly suggest you look at how the Steam games run when Windows isn't 'hogging' all of your devices abilities...
I use Linux a lot and OSX (and windows for work), steam OS works well (the desktop environment is a bit crap) and the games play pretty well (depending on steam compatibility) . I think my problem is I like to to tinker (have run windows on MacBook Air and osx on a windows laptop , turned WD drive into a torrent downloading media server and built lots of pointless things using Raspberry PI’s, think I prefer tinkering to playing games ) Strangely windows runs really well on the steam deck and most games play flawlessly (the big draw to windows is Xbox game pass) , the only real weakness is getting the steam deck game pad to work in windows is a bit fiddly)
I had the email last night and I'm now £565 lighter . But my purchase had generated over 66k Steam Points - so I had a look what games I could buy for them. only to find out: YOU CAN'T BUY GAMES WITH STEAM POINTS.
yeah I got excited when I realised I had generated a load of steam points and then disappointed when I realised they were not actually worth anything. have to say though the steamdeck is the best gadget / toy I have purchased in a long time
Mine was delivered this afternoon. I've downloaded Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance II (fantastic) and Dredd vs Death (which I'm not that enamoured with - it took half an hour to work out how to get a keyboard up - I had to google it and I've seen jet aircraft which have fewer controls). Tomorrow's tasks are see what the max size of SD card (I'm hoping as it's linux this shouldn't be an issue) and installing/finding the media player. I've got a five hour flight at the end of the month. Just seen on steam there an Alien Isolation Bundle for £8.99!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But no AvP for the steam deck.
I got one of these Samsung EVO Select 512GB microSDXC UHS-I U3 130MB/s Full HD & 4K UHD Memory Card inc. SD-Adapter (MB-ME512KA/EU), Blue £60 from Amazon works well
Not sure how good the flight mode is a lot of the games seem to need online connection to work, which seems a bit silly

I thought a Steam Deck was when you took a **** in the cistern so when they flushed, they got rusty poo water?
