We must now analyse the situation, a week or so into the new year. Watford must start by gaining at least a point from a beleaguered Liverpool on Saturday. After this, there are some other key games that must be picked out as six pointers. Wigan for starters in the re-arranged fixture. Sheffield away, West Ham at home, Charlton at home, City at home etc. If we examine what needs to happen - these games must all be won!
I usually have a very optimistic view on Watford's chances of staying up cmho your rite we MUST win all the games. But i'm afraid Liverpool are the most successful club in England and they will win unfortunatly but we will beat the other teams and stay up!
We must now??????? What the @@@@ has anything to do with Watford got to do with you northern tool? @@@@ off back to the Newcastle boards.
Very reactionary Jobby - new board clean slate. He's not slating or having a go at anyone and the thread is a fair indication of our plight. Fact is IMO we have very little chance of staying up and that chance for me is based on hope. We simply are not good enough this time round for this league and the season will bode us well for our next venture in 2007/8. Gaining loads of experience all round from Board level to Green team level. U ornsssssssssssss
"We must now analyse" "If we examine" What the @@@@, the tool is a newcastle fan taking the **** yet again.
27 more points will do it Its simple really if we can win probably 9 games, WE WILL STAY UP And I really think that is achievable!!!!
I agree...9 wins and we stay up or 8 wins and 3 draws!! I also agree with jobr, that northern tool is on here to stir it up!! Didnt even have to intelligence to troll..!!
Ok, here's what has been required to get 17th place in the Prem since it was reduced to 20 teams: 95/96 - 38 pts (+goal difference) Southampton 96/97 - 41 pts Coventry City 97/98 - 40 pts (+goal difference) Everton 98/99 - 41 pts Southampton 99/00 - 36 pts Bradford City 00/01 - 42 pts Derby County 01/02 - 40 pts Sunderland 02/03 - 44 pts Bolton Wanderers 03/04 - 39 pts Everton 04/05 - 34 pts WBA 05/06 - 38 pts Portsmouth The variation from year to year is pretty big. In 02/03 West Ham went down with 42 pts and in 04/05 WBA stayed up with 34... Anyway, I'd say we have a good chance if we can get 40 pts, which means we currently need 28 pts from the final 18 games. So... a record of 9-1-8 from the remaining games then... meaning we have to perform about equally to what, say, Tottenham or Everton, have done so far. Hardly impossible.
it can be done but there still alot of work to be done starting on sat but we have got some hard games comeing up to with liverpool on sat then villa and united we should beat blackburn
"So... a record of 9-1-8 from the remaining games then... meaning we have to perform about equally to what, say, Tottenham or Everton, have done so far. Hardly impossible" So why haven't we done it thus far? Facts remain facts - one win in 20 games proves ( even with all the effort, fitness and badluck/ref decisions) that we are not good enough. I wouldn't be surprised if 40 points is still 4 points short this season. Will be one hell of an effort and a turn around if we do manage to stay up. Something to be proud of and to be part of. Watford 3 Liverpool 1
We have 2 games in hand as as things stand at the mo if we won them we would go ahead of west ham if we could start winning games we can stay up but if we keep on finding it hard to put the ball in the back of the next them we stand no chance.
You're absolutely right, we haven't been good enough. But, thankfully, things do change in the game of football Remember when Wimbledon went down from the Prem? They were safely in mid-table after 25 games, but hardly took any points after that, lol The point is, it _can_ be done. Stranger things have happened than a relegation battler getting 26-30 points from 18 games.
i think we done great this season but the one thing what let us down is infront of goal and if you cant score u aint going to win games and thats what are problem has been but with are new signing pushing for a place in the team on sat surely that will give henderson a kick up the arse and lets hope he might start hitting the back of the net 2
What I would like to see is us put a fair few points on the board between now and the end of the season. If it isn't enough then so be it, but one thing is for certain, if we get the same amount of points as we have done so far (or less) again, we certainly have no chance of stayin up.
Priceless ... From a team with one league win to date !! Ever tried Standup Comedy >> you are a natural
I accept what you are saying - but IMO Charlton and West Ham are both better equiped than us to do that meaning that we will not make it to 17th place. Wigan are now in serious danger but the likes of man city and blackburn who were down close to us have hit form and moved away from us. Sheff Utd too have picked up decent points recently and M'boro and necastle who were close to us have got points on the board. I hate being realistic - but as previously said on other threads I am so proud what this squad have done and how they have matched nearly every team we have played and given us fans hope throughout each game other than Chelsea and Arsenal away. Its close, but we are on the wrong side of close.
I'm in sunny Southern California and so like the Premiership for the fact that I can actually see a reasonable number of games. Of the ones I have seen (basically all the televised ones), we have only been outplayed 2 or 3 times... Arsenal wiped the floor with us, Chelsea just about outclassed us although they made the win look harder than it should have been and Man U were noticeably better than us even though the game was actually pretty even. Sheffield were crap, but we managed to be even worse and there was one other game (which my mind is conveniently forgetting) in which we played really badly against a team that were crap. However, apart from those 5 games, we have played well. Sure, our scoring chances were few and were normally discarded like used condoms when they did happen, but our general play was good. Now that we have some decent strikers, I think that the one real problem area in our game has been fixed. On the Watford Mailing List someone did a study of how many points we would have if we had simply scored ONE goal extra per game. We would have been in the top half of the table. Sure, it is possible that our other deficiencies will become more critical now that we have the strikers we need and so there is no guarantee that we will escape relegation. However, I personally think that we will finish the season comfortably mid-table. Our defence will remain hard to penetrate, although I hope that we rely less on the off-side trap since I suspect that other teams will now be expecting it. Our midfield has a bit more flexibility with Bangura hitting a patch of form and Williamson coming into the squad. Bouazza has been more effective than Young over the last month or two and Smith has been useful on the right even if a bit less effective than Young/Bouazza. With a couple of sharp strikers, I think that we will take more advantage of the regular loose balls in the opposition penalty box. My prediction; 50 points.
Nice to read - but 50 points means: we need to get 38 points in 18 games which is champions league placing form and llows us the cushion of dropping 16 points if that is to be achieved. Man utd away - none Chelsea home - none Bolton home - none spurs away - none = 12points lost allows us 2 draws to make the lost 16 points. Having looked over the fixture list and as posted elsewhere about this unbelievable belief at WFC our 2nd half of the season doesn't seem as difficult as the first half. I didn't include LIverpool in my losses as I feel ery positive about this game and a tidy 3-1 victory could really set us off on the long road to safety - but i feel we have blown our chance of survival due to the 1st half of the seasons points tally. Still we have so much to look forward to and having already accepted relegation as the end result, i will always live in hope. We need some bonus points - for example a point or a win against he teams i noted as losses, would really help the cause. But we must beat the teams that people say are beatable, which we have not done bar M'boro thus far.
It all needs to start with a run of 2 or 3 wins - then all of a sudden, you're off the bottom - and putting the pressure on those above you! As a betting man, I would, at this point; say that I believe Watford will stay up. I still think West Ham are going to go down, as are Charlton and one of Wigan or Sheffield. Sheffield have had the same fighting spirit and determination of Watford this season - which has been admirable, unfortunately for you, Warnock's Warriors have had the rub of the green. However, you must look at how they've done in the first half of the season as an example! You're definitely due some luck!
i feel more optimistic this season than i did at this point in 99/00 when we knew we weren't good enough. I feel we may be good enough with strikers in the side. the defence, as has been said, is pretty solid. we have exciting attacking players even if Ash goes. i rate hameur very highly and tamas may start to show something. Moses may be an exciting find and of course we don't know how hoskins and williamson will adapt. and there should be a couple more new faces to strengthen the squad. see what a difference the first couple of wins does. we are unbeaten in 2007.
Agree with need to win two or three on the trot: BUT next 5 games in league: liverpool home Villa away Blackburn home man utd away Bolton Home First glance i though 4 points max, second glance 10 points ( lose at manure and draw v Bolton) Third glance - 13 points... that would be very nice indeedy.
I kept glancing Berkshire and lo and behold I can now see 18 points from those five games. Have to stop glancing now, my eyes hurt.
