The club have asked for these not to be posted yet, but it seems it's a little too late. Too many fans have already seen and copied them.

  2. We're not going to need a bigger ground in the championship

But we will be groundsharing with Arsenal who won't need such a big stadium for the next decade of premier league mediocrity.

Having beaten the world champions and the global recognition that will come with this I expect Gino to be making the breaking ground ceremony monday morning!

  8. You never know perhaps Success will turn out to be a master brick layer and can help build the stadium, would be nice if it turned out he was good at something

If this is true, not sure it is as nothing has been officially mentioned, then it would be great news. For the club to keep progressing it needs a first class, modern stadium.

    Get it built.

Well this is all very interesting. Artwork of a new stadium at Bushey Hall Golf Club appears and then is deleted with no explanation. Has the club required that they be taken down? Were they obtained in an illegal or illegitimate manner?

A bit of an explanation would certainly be a fair request.

Agreed. I love the Vic, but if we can build a top ground (which those pictures did look), then it could be a great boost.

“Build it and they will come” or “build it and it’ll be half empty”?

He, he, he. Based on the now banned pictures it doesn’t look like a huge ground is proposed. More of a high quality 30k ground.

i like the Vic, but the facilities are poor.

Build a 35k stadium and it will be full.....for the first season when we play the best in the league.

Once the novelty wears off the attendance will naturally reduce, but it depends on the club's ambition. Do the owners see us as a viable top half team with European aspirations?

I think if we remain a Premier League club for many years to come we do need a bigger stadium. Probably 30k will be enough, but hell, if you're going to build a stadium from scratch you may as well make it a little bigger than you require.

This could also attract other events. A possible venue for European competitions, other sporting events or concerts etc. A world title fight with AJ would be nice, for example.

Having a nice stadium is a statement of intent. It gives the impression Watford are on the up and will attract better players. I think Watford have an advantage geographically, where we're not in the middle of London, but close enough for it to be an attractive selling point.

The commercial revenue will increase also. With a Fan Zone the catering would be very attractive. VR is now a nice looking stadium but it has reached it's potential. The footprint is too small for development. Although it's in town, it's bad for parking. It's also on the wrong side of town for nightlife so it can only really make money on a matchday.

The new proposed venue is in a much nicer area. There are a lot of sporting facilities around too, such as the David Lloyd tennis club, Power League soccer and the Bushey Leisure Centre all on the same stretch of road, so a stadium seems to fit its surroundings.

For me, this makes perfect sense for a club that wants to develop and permanently be considered a Premier League football club, rather than a gate-crasher. Rightly or wrongly, stadiums are the symbol of a football club's identity.

I now see Spurs as a "Super Power" football club, even though they are not that yet. They have arguably the best stadium in Europe and this will attract very good players over the next few transfer windows. Put it this way, it's certainly an easy sell when trying to sign a player.

An ambitious 21st century club, needs a 21st century stadium, and it looks as though the owners are now seriously considering this also.

It would be neat to celebrate 100 years at the Vic in 2022, then move on to a new stadium (the "New Vic" ;)) a year or two later.

If we build a 30,000+ stadium then get relegated it'll look like the Madejski. In other words, awful.

Just price the tickets well and we can get 15k in the Champ, which would Not look bad. League 1 would be a different matter of course.

but we can’t stick with the current stadium long term in the prem. well we could but it would take a lot of redevelopment and cost more in the long run than building a better stadium elsewhere.

A risk we will probably have to take at some point. Actually I don't think we could justify 30,000+, but 27-30,000 would make sense. We have a huge catchment area if you consider that there are no other PL/Championship clubs north of the Thames and outside the M25 in Oxfordshire, Berks, Bucks, Northants, Beds, Herts, Essex, Suffolk or Cambs. Actually there is one ;).

Slightly off subject, but whatever happened to the new transport infrastructure in the Vicarage Road area?

I seem to remember there was supposed to be a new rail link and station, and also a big change to the road layout in the area, is that all still happening or not?

  23. Abso

The roads have changed South of the stadium, with Thomas Sawyer Way going in which links the Bushey Arches to Willow Lane. The Met line extension was scrapped by Sadiq Khan for financial reasons.

Boris was all for the Met Line extension and it was approved under his tenure as Mayor. Sadiq Khan didn't see how a rail link in Hertfordshire was to the benefit of Londoners and scrapped it.

Not funded by Boris though was it? Costs spiralled I seem to remember and he wasn't going to pick up the tab.

Haven't seen the images, can anyone confirm if they depict a 160,000 seater megastadium?

If not, this will represent a frustrating lack of ambition.
