I agree that us not being able to fly our flag in our own friggin country is absolutely outrageous but if this thread is gonna turn into one of those "i hate foreigners, up the england, i wish i was a skinhead" type from the usual suspects then im ooooot

Who tells you you can't fly the flag? And what does a Sun front page from June last year have to do with it? This is blantant attempt to start off on the same old nationalistic nonsense so I'll leave you to enjoy the thread...

    Carly,a few questions.

Who do you blame? Who has influenced the government? Who is it that complains the flag is a symbol of the BNP?

wen the world cup was on i bought a 10 foot by 6 foot st george flag and was ordered to take it down as the council put it "an eyesore"

I blame the government and i dont think anyone has influenced them. They are so scared of offending the non british that they do everything in their favour. I have indian friends who thought it was ridiculous that we couldnt fly our flag, even my best friend who is half russian, half japanese said to me "your country is weird, why are they giving people like me so many rights when im the one living in your country?" She cant actually understand it.

So its no-ones fault but our own government who think that being PC is the right thing to do.

And no, i dont blame "foreigners" or any of the people living in Britain. It is purely the government who are absolute retards.

I wonder where this is heading, ie. the same place all the other threads that are on a similar topic which end up with a wave of nationalistic bullsh*t and follow the crowd opinions.

I agree about government being retards etc. Not all non Brits follow the same line, some like this country and some don't. If I remember correctly the government had complaints about the flag being racist as it was linked to the BNP, this is the point i find annoying.

Yeh obviously there are a few who do complain and it angers me that people come into our country and get offended by english things. It really does boil my blood and i would love to see them get shipped off out of here because i think it is rude and disgusting.

At the end of the day i just cant stand it when people put on this "We're english we hate everything non english" bravado and think that it is smart. It's just really ignorant.

You have to be so careful on this subject. I have strong views that we give far to much to foreign people wanting to live in our country. I am told i am Racist because of this? HOW? WHY? what the hell has that got to do with race? We make it to easy for people to come here and scrounge off our system. Those that work have bought wages down so low in certain jobs its no longer worth taking them. I don't blame anyone other than the goverment for this though. I am proud to be english, just like hornette carly's friend is probably proud to be half russian and half Japanese. no one will ever take that away from me. England till' i die.

I was in Chalfont St Peter this morning and as always at this time of year it is bedecked with the cross of St George flying from the flagpoles above every shop. They should send a Sun photographer there, but they won't because it would ruin their story.

While we're digging up old news......

Blair criticised for flying cross of St George at No 10
DOWNING Street was last night forced to defend Tony Blair's decision to fly the English flag above No10 amid claims the Prime Minister is ignoring the rest of the UK.

The Prime Minister's office yesterday confirmed he would be joining the near-hysteria south of the Border over England's World Cup participation by flying the cross of St George on England's match days.

Mr Blair also sent a hand-written letter of encouragement to the England squad in Germany.

The cross of St George is now ubiquitous in England, with even Tessa Jowell, the Culture Secretary, and David Cameron, the Tory leader, displaying the flag in car and office windows.

Rob Gibson, SNP MSP for the Highlands, said Mr Blair's gesture was "typically insensitive" and suggested the Prime Minister had "lost his marbles".

John Kaylor, of the Perthshire branch of the Tartan Army, said Mr Blair was ignoring the other countries in the union. "If he wants to be Prime Minister of England, that's fine by us."

But the Prime Minister's official spokesman insisted it was "not insensitive" to support the only one of the home countries taking part in the World Cup.

I'm sorry if you are implying because Tony Blair had a St George flag at 10 Downing Street then it means he is for our best intrests you are very wrong. I think you will find the people complaining about goverment, are complaing about the immigration system and benifits. Not about the flag, but then again its all connected.

Regardless of where this is going, it aint staying in the General Watford forum. Please keep this sort of discussion to the Steam room. To be perfectly honest I'm not sure what it's doing here at all?

I think you will find this thread is about not being able to fly the cross of St George. The implication in the first post is that this was a government decision.

Not being English, (scottish) I however entirely agree with those who choose to display the country's colours. I think P.C. is going crazy and needs to be sorted until we become a nation without identity.

Racist or p.c crazy, whatever it is I still have my England flag flying in my window from Euro 2004 and have St George's everywhere when it's April 23rd.

But the thing what really annoys me is that a friend who has had a St George on his balcony for over 4 years gets a letter from the Met Police or London council (can't remember) to take it down!!!! Obviously he was outraged by this and so asked them why?

Their answer was "Because we only allow St George's with football crests on." The easy solution to this was that I sent him my England crested flag, plus one of my Watford ones as well. lol. They didn't know where to look.

At the end of the day I have no problem what nations flag is in someone's window, it's not doing any harm to me or the world.

    RANT OVER AND OUT!
