Well the'll have to wait until January .

All they have done is alerted other clubs who want a player like Sordell.

With the prices being paid at the moment for promising English talent we could well ask for 14mill rather than 4mill and probably get offers quite close to that.

Though personally, I'd like Marv to stay with us at least until the end of the season and preferably for the duration of the next one. With him up front and if the majority of these new players work out and don't move on we could have a good promotion chasing squad on our hands.

That's an excellent starting price. If Marv keeps performing and we have the nuts to hang on to January 31st then we could pay for the East Stand :drinking:.

I agree, that would be a good starting point. If Sordell is on a long contract, then I think you have to look along the lines of what Wickham was sold for to Sunderland. In January prices seem to over inflate anyway, so Watford would be looking for at least £10-12 million. It would go a long way towards paying off club debts and ground improvements.

Marvin has to be worth more than Wickham, so the saints know what they can do with their paltry offer :sign3::sign3::sign3:

It's not quite as black and white as that is it?

Wickham is a lot more higher rated by everyone other than Watford fans, he's younger, also the clubs bidding for him were Liverpool and Sunderland, not apparently Southampton and no one else of note.

    Southhampton can eff off.

    1) If we do sell him (hopefully) it won't be for £4m.

    2) It won't be to some scutty club like Southampton. Premier league only.

It is unrealistic to think that any team would spend that sort of money until they can see at least 1 seasons steady track record. DEfinately no more than £1.5 / £1.75 million. Even after a good season say like Graham had then maybe 3/4 million as he is younger.

We will never be able to demand big money because we cannot afford to say no. Simple principals of business we have a commodity to sell to limited buyers who do not need our product as much as we need their money. Basic discounting to get the deal !

To me, it looks as if The Mirror are making bits of the story up. I'm sure we would've heard about the "£3m rejected bid" one way or another if it was true. Plus the only striker they were supposedly after was Jay Rodriguez from Burnley.

As said, £4m would be a great starting price but the club aren't stupid. They know that if he hits 15+ by the end of the season, his price will go up even more. We could end up getting quite a big fee for Sordell at the end of the season if he carries on banging them in all year round. Fingers crossed he does.

If this story is true, I think Southampton are taking the ****. How can they sell Oxlade-Chamberlain to Arsenal for £12m + £3m add ons (I accept he is an exceptional player) and then only offer £3m for Sordell. They are effectively saying Chamberlain is worth five Marvins.

My only concern is whether there is a clause in Sordell's contract allowing him to speak to clubs upon a set figure being offered as with Danny Graham.

What a load of rubbish. There were no bids for Sordell on deadline day - or at least I thought I read somewhere that there were no official bids tabled for our players, Mapps, Sordell or otherwise on deadline day.

What a ridiculous time to be writing about tabling a bid in 4 months as well - the Summer window was closed for 9 days, Sordell scores a screamer for the U-21s and suddenly they're looking to January. Talk about desperate journalism.

As for Sordell's value in January, as long as he continues to improve until then and beyond, the club has to put its foot down and say no, and either hold out until the final day of the window, or until next summer. Why let the lad move on and let his progress be hindered by sitting on the bench in the Premiership, or remaining at Championship level. The only clubs we should be looking to sell to if the situation ever arises, is a Premiership club. The last time we had a prospect this bright was Young, and we forced the hands of West Ham and Villa up to £9.65m. Good buisness. No Championship club will be able to afford such an offer, but with the amount of money floating around in the Premiership, that's the only place we can be looking to sell to with Sordell. There could be seriously important money for the club - Wickham kinda money.

But aside from that, cut the talk about selling the lad, it's September! Let's hopefully enjoy what he can serve up for the rest of this season - at least!

    what a load of crap
unless the club lied to use they said they had no bids for him or any players. if he carrys on playing for the England u21 and does well in the champ you have to be looking at a price of near the money AY went for

How long is Sordells contract, we should renew for at least 4 years.

Got 2 years to run, I think we should renew this year quite considerably.

I guess it will depend on which league position the 2 teams are in come January.

IF we are closer to Southampton I doubt Marv would want to go..but if we are in trouble then could see us consider any potential bid.

He will be worth more in the future though...

Looks like Spurs, Liverpool and Blackburn are now interested. We will lose him in January, especially if he continues to improve. It will be a bidding war though, so can only be of benefit to Watford. I think Bassini would feel like it's winning the lottery. Marv will be our next Ashley Young, and hopefully keep us out of financial trouble for the next couple of years.

"According to reports Blackburn Rovers are interested in Watford forward Marvin Sorrell.

The 20 year-old striker is reported to have been scouted by Rovers as well as Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur.

The Sun claims Southampton will make an improved £4 million offer for Sordell in January.

The Hornets snubbed a £3 million Saints swoop on transfer deadline day."

I don't understand why people seem to feel we should bite off the hand of the first offer that comes along.

    http://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/sp...ord_one_of_only_two_clubs_recording_increase/

We might not be ridiculously rich, but that doesn't mean we have to be stupid. That goal against Israel wasn't luck, it was pure talent of the kind you don't see very often. He didn't even look at the goal, and belted it with his weaker left foot right into the corner of the net.

Frankly, I doubt we'll see a better goal than that at any level this year. If Rooney had done that, people would be screaming about goal of the season already.

You don't sell a striker who is capable of doing things like that for peanuts.
