I have been away so i would of posted this earlier. Just because he banged one in the top corner on monday, while attempting to trap a ball, he hasn't suddenly had a good game. For the majority of the game he was his usual self- falling over, giving the ball away, pointing, and generally looking like the other team is playing piggy in the middle with him due to his lack of pace/football brain. I hope his injury he picked up on Monday keeps him out for at least a week to save him embarrassing himself/us on a big stage.
Have to agree, one great goal and one superb pass doesn't and shouldn't wipe out the fact that his performances since the turn of the year have deteriorated dramatically. Maybe the goal will boost his confidnce, but I wouldn't be too disappointed if he was not in the team on Saturday. If he does play I hope he leads by example and plays his socks off and wins man of the match.
Gavin didn't play well in the first half against Pompey, but let's take nothing away from his goal. It was a very, _very_ well technically executed half-volley. I thought Gav played much better in the second half. Let's hope he can take that confidence with him to Villa Park.
His all round performance on Saturday was a big improvement on what obviously not only us as fans but himself and Aidy realised that his recent poor unacceptable form. Too many people single him out and use him as a scapegoat for the whole team's failure but that's a completely different and frustrating issue that i don't have the energy or want to go into.
His performances since the turn of the year? I wanted him out in the Loosington years, League 1 player.
Yes he has been poor since Xmas, but Monday was a much better performance than some of the others. I am just trying to be optimistic that he can kick on from Mondays performance as the season comes to a close.
As for the first bit i have know idea what game you were watching but that is utter shyte. And for the second who would you propose we have in the middle, bangura? the only thing he is good for is breaking peoples legs, you are one of many clueless c**ts who just have it in for Mahon, he could have the performance of his life and you would criticise, after all you seem have to already forgotten the first half of the season where he was one of our best, possibly the best, outfield performer, he has a lack of pace as do half our team
Why do you think some of us "have it in for Mahon?" the answer is because we feel he is generally an absolute waste of space. I personally would much rather have seen Bangura play more regularly. He was punished for one dreadful showing against Liverpool by being dropped into obscurity. Mahon has had many, terrible showings, yet is consistently selected. This is what frustrates us c**ts. By the same token, why are folk like you so defensive of him? The argument that he was great before Xmas is a myth amongst some fans who ignore the fact that our midfield was 2nd best in 90% of the games in the 1st half of the season. I give Mahon credit when he does well, but unfortunately, that is not very often.
