Are their contracts up at the end of the season? If they aren't, I can't understand why we would sell them in January and risk losing whatever chance we may have of doing anything of note this year and/or staying up, or sell them in the Summer when we know where we stand? If they all stilll have a year+ on their contracts it won't make any difference price-wise surely? In fact if Smudger got another 10-15 odd goals which he is on track for at the moment, then surely his value would be increased? This is just a thought with regard to the Mail article which is unsubstantiated.
The Mail are not often far wrong on Watford matters - they picked out Rodgers before any other media source for example. You have to take into account the brevity of the January window. That often pushes player values up to 150% of their norm. I'm certain we wouldn't have got £9.5m for Ashley Young in the summer of 2007.
At least O'Toole would demand compensation if he was to move to another English club, then of course, Inter Milan could come in for him! Due to the state of flux we are currently in, whoose job will it be to negotiate new contracts etc or is anyone actually in a position to do this?
Maybe its a case of selling one to keep 2 others? I hope we are not going to be forced to sell a number of key players otherwise I do really worry for our future on and off the pitch. Did read somewhere on GH that Smithy wanted a new deal but the club were not ready to make an offer...
