Skysports.com understands Steve Sidwell is on the verge of a dream move to Chelsea.

The dynamic midfielder is scheduled to undergo a medical at Chelsea at Monday ahead of a proposed move to Stamford Bridge.

Sidwell is not expected to feature for Reading in their final game of the season against Blackburn on Sunday as he prepares himself for his medical tests at Chelsea.

A number of clubs have been chasing Sidwell, who is available on a free transfer, after turning down a new deal at Reading.

However, it appears Chelsea have won the race for his signature in beating off interest from the likes of Newcastle, Everton and Middlesbrough.

Should Sidwell seal his move to Chelsea he will become Jose Mourinho's first signing of the summer.

he's consistant and a grafter . You neeed more than 11 pre-madonnas on the pitch , which is something that chelsea seem to have . Even Terry and Lamphard think their gods gift to the prem.

They rekon he'll be on 50k a week, but the funny thing is he will never start, and he'll probley be sold in 2 years just like Scott Parker, which was Charltons downful, and it might happen to reading aswell!

On the topic of Steve Sidwell, i think that it's a disastrous move for his career and his talent will be wasted.

We just need an inanimate carbon rod. That would do the trick :]]

Will dissapear at Chelsea. I know footballers are thick, but surely someone must see that there are better places to make a career as an average, Prem midfielder. Chelsea is a terrible move for him.

2 years at £50K a week = £5,200,000. plus win bonuses, then a golden handshake and signing on fee, plus a new contract with another Prem club and signing on fee when sold.

Doesn't sound too shabby to me ;)

Does he not see that he won't make it into the team? I mean he could go there thinking to be phased in as Makalele's successor but that is what I thought Jose bought Lassana Diarra for?

The same reason all " thick " footballers move to Chelski.

Huge wage packet , sat on the bench , end up in the reserves and being able to go out on the town at weekends , whilst still picking up a huge wage.

Then in 2 years moved on with another fee and probable first team football again.

    Bit synical!!

he may believe that chelsea is a place that can improve him as a player

he may see it as a risk, but it seems a great oppourtunity to pick up silverware playing for one of the best teams in europe

Thing is you need to play a certain number of games to even get a medal and the only competition I can see him doing that in is the Carling Cup.

True, but my point is that he may be confident enough to feel he may will be involvedin all comps

    Blues seal Sidwell signing

Chelsea have confirmed the signing of Reading midfielder Steve Sidwell.

Sidwell will join The Blues on a free transfer following the expiry of his Royals contract on 1st July.

Jose Mourinho has always been in the box seat to land the former Arsenal trainee, who also interested Newcastle.

Sidwell passed a Chelsea medical this week and will now return to Stamford Bridge for pre-season training at the beginning of July.

Sidwell's signing could be the first of three new signings at Chelsea this summer, with chief executive Peter Kenyon revealing recently that the club are also in the market for a defender and striker.

Moron, obviously not the brightest spark and clearly his agent forced it through.

    That's Sidwell's career over.

A good bit of business for Chelsea. They get him on a free, he sits in the stands for a season and then they will most likely sell him to a bunch of mugs like Newcastle for £5 million a year later.

He has no chance of playing, what a muppet, I thought he might have learnt that seeing as he came through the Arsenal youth system and had to leave to get a game
