What the heck have they become? People talk about second season syndrome, but this is like a chronic disease. Southampton ripping them to bits atm, they have fallen so much in such a short amount of time. I know we were utter crap too last season but ONE point? They are well on the way to beating Derby's PL record. Wilder is a decent coach. Any thoughts on what has gone so wrong, and why we could very possibly be playing them soon?
Swapped an excellent keeper for an average one which cost £18m. Spent £25m on a kid with potential, when they have effectively a championship side that massively over performed and needed strengthening all round rather than money gambled on just one player. If they were going to spend £25m on one player it needed to be a proven goal scorer. Also their 5 at the back system (a glimpse into the future if we get promoted with Ivic and keep him?) has been sussed and now they just hoof it up to their useless forwards. Wilder seems out of his depth with money to spend, can recruit well in the lower leagues but looks clueless at the top level.
Excitement starting to build on the Derby County forum now, record low could be on! (unless they bin off Wilder and get Big Sam in)
Much of football is about confidence. Start the season badly like we did last year its difficult to recover. They over achieved last year with a pretty bang average squad a d think they are a fair bet to go down. Pozzos would have sacked the coach by now.
Interesting quandary for them though. Wilder got them up from league one, a lot of their fan base believe he won’t and shouldn’t he sacked regardless, and he would be their best bet of getting them up again. ... However despite obviously keeping them up last season, he’s shown himself to be out of his depth this season. Will he learn like Dyche? Or will he get them back up again only to repeat the cycle.
Lost some key defenders from their wing back style defence and as stated above didn’t replace their keeper well. They weren’t great up front last season and got worse this season.
They really weren't all that last year and actually thought they were one of the worst team we played at The Vic.
They'll be fine. Plenty of points to play for and they have a squad that on paper should stay up. There's no need for any overreaction from the Sheffield fans. They should be careful what they wish for.
There is a reason why it's a second season syndrome. When a team goes up they are used to winning. Each game in the first season is exciting and new. The fans and players give that little bit more. And that's why, sometimes, bang average teams go up and stay up. It's very difficult to maintain that the following season though, as a lot of teams find out.
Yes, there can be a big difference in a players performance from competing to stay a Premier League player for the first time, to then believing you are one by default.
Don’t see why it couldn’t have gone under Premier League discussion... seems unnecessary duplication/cluttering.
Told you. The fightback starts here. Sheffield kept the faith and are being rewarded. They are as good as safe.
He didn't have a choice. He could have re-signed for Arsenal and that still would have been the case.
Welbeck is nothing other than a very good player once he’s had around 10 games back after an injury to get up to speed m. He definitely should have been starting over Troy in our last few games of the season
