I’ve missed something somewhere, do you do something like this for a living reids? Genuine question. Great job to do if so! If you don’t, but we score from your corner on Saturday, then maybe you soon will!

Also, was it you who did the zonal marking analysis before, and there was one team in either Germany or Spain who had a really successful version?

Not full time yet but nearly there, worked for Leyton Orient and Millwall, was interviewed by Man City over the summer and had my work praised by the Head of Analysis at Man Utd so dont think I'm too far off! Probably did something on zonal marking when we had Silva!

They would be fools not to @reids , the state of our free kicks over the last few seasons (both attack and defense). Whereas your analysis is very logical and simple to train.

    All the best!

I mean that's just common sense, my friends baby could improve Silva's defensive ability in free kicks;)

Fair play though @reids, I love football but have no ability to analyse it well.

Ah nice one, hope it works in our favour on saturday and you get a full time job from it.

As a side note, whenever I’ve heard Stack, either interviewed or on podcasts etc, he’s always come across as a top bloke. Glad he’s at the club and making a name for himself. Taking a punt on reids confirms his status as a good and decent man.

It’s also be a watershed moment for this forum. We’ve never had the chance to cyber abuse the culprits for our failings on this actual forum. It all changes this weekend.

Club official “so reids we’ve read your analysis and it’s very exciting. You’ve done all the hard work, found their weakness, pointed out every players jobs, it’s almost fool proof. Is there anything at all we need to do from our side?”

reids “not really, well just make sure you’ve got someone that can deliver a corner to that spot with accuracy “

    Club official “ah....”

Does that count as an assist for GD?

Didn't use any of them and Deulofeu did the same old ***** he always does. Gonna make a map of all his corners this season, bet it looks horrendous.

I find it hard to believe and understand in the modern day game, with the amount of money available, that they don’t find some better solutions to set pieces. Our success rate, as pointed out by yourself, is truly woeful. And yet commentators always mention that we have this big team who should be dangerous from them.

I noticed Hughes took over late in the 2nd half - mainly after GD had won them...

I find it bizarre that footballers can play an inch perfect pass from one side of the field to the other but when it comes to finding a team mate from a corner they absolutely useless.
I get it when there’s a free kick around different areas of the pitch but corners are delivered from same position other than side of pitch. If they actually practice these in training how could a professional not hit the area they are aiming for pretty much every time.
The opposing teams defence may deal with it but our corners either don’t make it past the first man or over hit it.
Deulofeu barely beats the first man and his technique is terrible. He has hit the front post a couple of times which I actually think is lucky otherwise it would have gone straight out.
I actually believe if I took 10 corners for Watford and Deulofeu took 10 my corners would result in more goal scoring opportunities, maybe even our 1st goal from a corner in forever. That’s how bad our corners are.

I honestly believe that he's trying to score direct from the corner. Which is mental.

A FK and corner really are a simple thing in a football match.

I’m no David Beckham but, back in my playing days, my set pieces caused all kinds of havoc. I honestly don’t remember ever hitting the front man, over hit, yes, but majority of the time it went right in the Mixer.

I just don’t know why we are so poor at them. They really are not difficult.

I hope it’s because they prioritized working on team shape/pressing etc this week with his first set of training sessions, rather than being too arrogant to exploit a possible weakness.

Southampton just had a free kick in pretty much the same position they scored against us ..

This time straight into the West Ham keepers arm !

Maybe kind of sums it all up ..

34 corners taken in all competitions so far, 1 shot generated (him hitting the post against Liverpool), first contact won 7 times however 4 of those were short corners.

******* abysmal, should learn from burnley. Like us they have big bruisers that can cause havoc in the mixer. Put Deeney on the keeper then take a gamble. Or try the old GT near front post flick

I’ve said before that the success of the near post flick, started by Graham Turner at Shrewsbury, put the higher cross out of fashion. The result was that fewer and fewer old-fashioned centre-forwards were adept at the thumping header from an outswinger, which you rarely see these days, particularly at the higher levels of football.

At first glance it's shocking from GD, but actually his delivery is pretty consistent. I'd question the overall plan or the desire of those in the box to win the header. Personally I dont think you can beat a bit of inswing into the keeper surrounded by 3 or 4 of our team.

Finally - I think I found someone who could deal with the balls our players send into the box:

All our striker have to do is copy - what's that about half an hour on the training pitch - JOB JOBBED.

Since I posted this on LinkedIn, GD has only taken 1 more corner for us. All hail Stack and Mullins. Also our biggest chance from a corner all season came against Villa, a nice routine (that sorta looked like a variation on the one I recommended for Liverpool - winning the ball deep in the area and knocking it down for someone).

Wenger was the first to burst the bubble on the whole corners thing, The stats have been out there for ages.

Dont know why fans get out of their seats for every corner...and then boo when we play it short and try a different angle .

Across the top 5 leagues in Europe only 2 teams have yet to score from a corner.

    Watford + Mallorca.

Only 5 teams have worse xG from corners than our 1.86 xG (from 117 corners):

    Real Valladolid - 1.71 xG (95 corners - 2 goals)
    Cagliari - 1.67 xG (97 corners - 2 goals)
    Parma - 1.77 xG (117 corners - 3 goals)
    Amiens - 1.55 xG (92 corners - 3 goals)

Out of interest, what constitutes ‘scoring from a corner’? A header directly from the cross, certainly, but what about following a goalmouth scramble or a short corner resulting in a lengthy passing movement for example?
