Genuinely don’t know! Just vaguely know we want 2 CB’s so it’s a bit of slightly educated guesswork from me that this mystery signing will be a CB.

I wanted 2 CBs but didn’t expect we’d actually go for 2 (due to both money and squad size!). If it’s a domestic loan then who else is there besides Jones and Rodon?

Malang Sarr, Rob Holding, Callum Chambers, Cameron Carter-Vickers (currently on loan at Celtic), Nat Phillips, Ben Davies (on loan at Sheff Utd)

The wording of this tweet from The Athletic makes it very clear it's another CB

Anything close to his best and we're getting a much better CB than we have at the moment, I get that it's a Danny Rose-style punt though. Still, is there anything to suggest he's as out of shape as Rose?

We will find out later as he's set for his first start in nearly two years against Wolves.

He’s unlikely to be as fat as Rose, or even fat at all, but he has basically no match fitness as it stands and the real concern is that he is astonishingly injury prone.

He’s missed 160 games through injury since the start of the 15/16 season according to transfermarkt, and obviously that won’t necessarily count the games he then has to work back up to full fitness and therefore isn’t chosen for, or the games he isn’t considered for because the coach just isn’t used to/prepared to rely on him and so has two or three pairings ahead of him of players who haven’t been constantly in and out for the majority of their career.

A fully fit, firing and thriving Phil Jones living his best life doesn’t come anywhere near Watford, of course, but just like all the others there are very significant reasons why that has suddenly become a possibility, and historically we often get burned for overlooking them.
