It says in his contract that he must supply all staff on the bench with blankets and ensure they are all happy during matches!! No mention of goalkeeping duties!
he's banking on Foster leaving at the end of the season and being the automatic first choice. Would love to see the look on his face when we stay up and sign foster for another season long loan
Bit harsh me thinks! Think this might be a sign that Rich will be number 1 next year and it sounds as if he's convinced Aidy he's up to the job.
I'm pretty sure he won't be our number 1 next season. I'm sure I remember someone asking at the dinner about goalkeepers in case we don't keep Foster and Aidy said that they've been long monitoring three or four alternative keepers both at home and abroad as replacements.
We won't be able to find anyone as good as foster. How big is the gap between lee and foster? We will have to find someone that has the ability between the two.
Re: finding a GK with a skill level between Ben and Richard; Frankly, from what I have seen of Lee playing this season, he is pretty nearly as good as Foster now. His kicks are not as long, but his shot-stopping and his positioning is excellent. I think Lee is in the top five or 10 English keepers now. Of course, he hasn't played often and so he may have consistency problems if he plays every week, but then he may just improve even more. I think Aidy was talking about finding a keeper to be Lee's backup for next year.
That could also have been possible. I'm still not sure about Lee's ability to command his area on long-balls and crosses though given his height. This would be a particular issue with the amount of time the ball spends in the air in the Championship and with tall strikers like Rasiak, Howard, Parkin (Hull) and Lee.
Dan Shittu commands the crosses, rich saves the shots and Jay scores the winners for us. Perfect init?
i remember seeing in a reserve game a few seasons ago and he pulled off a save that was almost reminiscent of gordon banks' save of the century i always thought he was class, fair enough he's not that tall but neither was barthez
He's undoubtedly a talented shot stopper and is by no means a bad goalkeeper. He even seems to have brushed up on his kicking. But I'd still rather we signed a first choice ahead of him. Sorry but he's a bench player for me.
I have no problem with Richard Lee, his kicking was poor but during the close Season he employed a kicking coach at his own expense, his kicking now is nearly as far as Fosters, but more accurate than Fosters. Come on Richard Lee.
I'm still not 100% convinced by his command of the area/defence and his claiming of crosses. I'm not saying he's abysmal, I just think we could find a bigger better goalkeeper to be number one.
Last season I would have agreed with you but when he has played this season he has seemed vastly improved and looked very competent.
I think this is a position Aidy will cover at the end of the season. He will look to get a numbe rone in if we are still in the Prem, but if we are if we go down, Richard Lee will be number one. I have to say, Foster is fantastic and would love to have him here next year but agree that Lee has improved greatly. I seen him in the first team and reserves over the years and he's great to have at the club
lee wont ever be on a loan to us again i think furgerson finally caught on to just how good foster is
who would win in a fight between marlon the punching rebel, moses the past knifer and carlisle the gambling former drinker with demons? ;D
How's his butt ? When I drag my wife to games (which does not happen often since we live 9,000 miles away) she tends to spend most of the game watching the keepers behind with the camcorder on maximum zoom. According to her, Alec Chamberlain and Espen Baardsen were well worth the entrance fee, but Foster's a little disappointing to her. I know that you may suggest that I come to games without her, but if she isn't going to the game, she'll want to go shopping. She is very good at finding bargains, but 100 bargains can still be bloody expensive !
