[RUMOUR] Rekeil Pyke (striker)

The first Hertfordshire Mercury rumour of the day is for 19 year old striker Rekeil Pyke.
Unusually we're not fighting regular transfer foes Newcastle United for his signature but instead it's just as regularly mentioned Everton who are supposedly also interested. Ho-hum.

Huddersfield starlet Rekeil Pyke (5' 10") is being closely watched by both Watford and Everton, despite never making a first team appearance for the club. Pyke is just 19-years-old and his only experience of senior football has come in the form of two loan spells at Wrexham and Colchester United respectively.

He made just one start and two substitute appearances for Wrexham in the National League, before starting four games and making eight appearances from the bench for Colchester in League Two last season. But, according to The Sun, that has not put off Watford or Everton who are both keen on the striker.

It is not clear how long Pyke has left on his contract at the Premier League new boys. Some reports suggest it ends this summer - when he signed his first professional deal back in February 2015 it was only described as a 'long-term deal'. The longest contract a player under the age of 18 can sign is three years, however, so assuming he has not extended that unannounced, it cannot run past next February. That means the Hornets or Toffees could get him cheaply, or for a tribunal fee if the contract does indeed end this summer.

He is highly unlikely to feature for either sides' first teams in the near future, but both Watford and Everton will be hoping Pyke can develop in their U23 sides and push for first team honours in years to come.

I have no idea if he will be a good player or not, but even if he does become one in the future that is not what should be our prority, because we need players for NOW!
