    Referee vs Man City

Our referee for our match tomorrow night will be Mark Clattenburg.

He's only refereed one previous match this season for us. The 1-0 defeat at BWFC.

In 17 games this season he's given 67 yellows but only one red.

In previous seasons we've come across him several times:

    Championship Rotherham 2 - 1 Watford 09-11-2002 2yellows

    League Cup Sheff Utd 0 - 0 Watford 26-10-2004 0cards

    Championship Watford 2 - 3 Sheff Utd 17-09-2005 4yellows 1red

Carlisle and Henderson booked. Mackay dismissed.

Due to shocking train times I have had to opt to go to this one on the coach. If somebody can save me, that is going by car with space then please private message me. I don't mind driving up myself if anyone else wants a lift but don't wanna go up with just me in the car.

we won't get the penalties as we will pick up the yellow cards for simulation.

If we play properly we won't need to worry about the referee. I think some people look for an excuse before the game is even played.

83/28 is only 2.96 cards a game. Surely that can't be much more than average?

I also don't think 1 penalty every 2.8 games is that much considering it's both teams. It'd mean the average team would get 8 penalties a season, which can't be too inaccurate.

He certainly appeared keen to award penalties and show yellow cards today :(

No words to describe the useless ****.

Hopefully the ******* will be demoted only to inflict his ineptitude on another poor side further down the pyramid.

FF's booking looked harsh....reputation I fear paid for him.

Trouble with the 2 penalties is that Deeney or Doyley didn't go down and start rolling around...

The thing is that the Football Association and League are pushing young refs through, like Madley, to fill up the gaps as many older experienced heads have retired.

All clubs are going to find such varying performances (this was a big game for today's ref) while these officials gain experience.

The thing is, if they were being managed like a WFC squad player, they'd be withdrawn occasionally to prevent burn out.

The game itself will suffer if these guys get so slagged off every week and decide to bottle it or retire because of all the grief they get. It's no good if they're too scared to give decisons.

Penalties aside, he wasn't the worst I've seen and often let down by his linesmen. It seemed he was doing everything not to give cards and was naive, like the last ref we had, in the gamesmanship going on.

Too much warning players and wasting time when a quick yellow would have been better. Thought FFs yellow for diving was wrong.

I would expect the side that has scored the most goals in the whole of England to have had a fair share of penalties also.......hmmmm.

From where I was sat, Forestieri's was a blatant dive - he got his toe to the ball and started going down straight away. I was hoping the ref would fall for it, but for once he actually made the correct call.

This was the worst game of refereeing I've ever witnessed.

The ghost goal was the worst decision, but aside from that he was average.

I think we needed them today and also the home match against Brighton, when we didn't get the two most blatent penalties I ever seen not given in a match.

Deeneys today was so obvious I genuinely thought I was in some kind of nightmare when it wasn't given. I have never seen a referee see a player get dragged down by the neck without the ball and tell him to get up.

What are we meant to say? That every ref this season has an agenda against us? That they all sat down in August and said 'lets ruin our reputations by deliberately officiating against Watford?'

Surely it's a 46 game season, we are in Division Two, at that level there are good refs and not so good ones, we've had some very bad decisions go against us and we have had a few bad ones go for us (one against us came from a guy normally officiating in the PL anyway)

Today's was crap. But I just can't subscribe to this conspiracy theory. We're 2nd in the table! It's usually clubs at the bottom who bemoan never getting decisions.

I believe that some refs might be taking the law into their own hands due to not agreeing with our policies, as controversial as that is.

I agree with HB1. There were one or two things about the ref today that reminded me of the ref at the home game against Brighton. The refusal to give us a penalty time and time again despite the most blatant of fouls. The penalizing of Pudil after a tangle with one of their players in the box.

All refs should have at least a season or two's game time before playing, so that decisions are made while taking into account the game's nature as well as the 'legal'.

If this was the case the ref may well have spotted these penalties, though I agree FF did dive from my angle.

Sadly.....I'm not. I have zero faith in the match officials we get. This is why I posted it before the match, so it does look like sour grapes. I've said this many times in the past, and this still holds true, Watford are on the receiving end of poor decisions more often than not. It's just so predictable this will happen.

We get a referee that has a reputation for giving penalties, but suddenly gets scared to give them for us. Yeah right.....

  34. Malteser

    Malteser Squad Player

But you've not explained why you believe that is? Does anybody seriously think the refs had a meeting pre-season and decided to be down on us because of our loanee policy?

You might care to note we've not a red card since our good run started in November.
