Yeah but what physical presence? He can't move and he certainly can't jump, so his input is standing there and being beaten in the air by centre backs. I don't think he's the strong man he thinks he is anymore, he gets dominated by centre backs every week. I've never seen him end up on the deck so much!
Fair play for the GT videos in that thread on the PNE forum. Almost makes me want to log on as superhorns and wish you luck for the rest of the season. Almost.
My daughter and I went up there once and spent pre-match looking around the Football League Museum. Quite good, if you like lots of nineteenth-century international shirts and so forth. Underneath, I think, the Tom Finney Stand. But I believe Man Utd (of course) have since taken it away for themselves. Shame, as Preston have a past record which I fear we will never equal. All a long time ago, of course.
I'm afraid that, in terms of the passing stats, I just took them from a post by @LouOrns on twitter, so I can claim neither credit nor knowledge of their origin. In terms of the heat maps they're from sofascore, but then it says that on them so I presume I'm not telling you much there!
Isn't it just a cross with a flag on it? Apparently the lamb is the emblem of St Wilfrid, but is also 'The Lamb of God' aka Jesus. But it also has other, confusingly mystical religious significances. The 'PP' stands for the 'Prince of Peace'. Apparently. Guess who has just spent 30 minutes disappearing down a Google vortex..
All you need to do is light up your superhorns beacon and shine it into the night sky and he'll be there, ready to offer friendly platitudes on your behalf.
Lovely. Well a crosier is just a stylised staff so I assumed it would fall under a not-very-stylised example of that, but it's perfectly possible that it would officially be ruled something less interestingly-named too.
We actively discourage sensible posters... We're more the raving lunatic facts-be-damned types around here.
I understand the desire to rotate to save players, but the flip side is if you keep losing / drawing you are not saving them for anything as the season will be lost and we will be out of the playoffs. if we have no injuries, to start anything other than same team that started on Saturday is insanity , it was only one victory and may have been a fluke but you would have to be an idiot to not play the same and see if this is our winning formula. if we start Deeney or Gray then we either rate something else (Deeneys ego?) above promotion , or we have a manager / owner who are genuinely so ******* clueless that they don’t understand we need points to be promoted. Time for trying to boost Gray’s confidence has gone (he shouldn’t be making the bench as he offers nothing that others can’t cover), keeps Deeney on the bench in case we need more physicality , play what we have and stop hoping for a change in confidence.
WARNING - POST 1,756,998 about Troy Deeney incoming.... Thing is, he’s actually always been a pretty decent player technically, the ‘big strong aerial threat’ thing is a bit misleading and I think he’s bought into that too much and tried to use that more than his other abilities. I think the time has long passed for this - but IF he concentrated on playing up top, being a part of a team keeping the ball on the deck, stopped making his team mates feel nervous about getting the infamous Troy stare, arm raise, etc then he’d make an ok back up for Pedro. Different type of player but could be useful in certain situations and when Pedro genuinely needed a rest. Problem is he won’t be THAT type of person so it’s irrelevant.
His link up play - knock ons, round the corners, clever chests etc - was really top notch way back when, he had good vision and the confidence to own it Like you say, I think he ended up focussing on being a hard man brand and stopped doing the things he was really good at quite a while ago
Whilst this is also true, from the diagnosis to the conclusion, there is one other issue it doesn't take into consideration, and it's possiby the most important - his movement/mobility. Or, indeed, more accurately, his very, very close to total lack of it. It's that that really hurts the team, changes the entire way we play as a team and neutralises the effect of the plethora of exciting, technical, dynamic young forwards we have at our disposal all around him. We literally can't play the way we did against Bristol with him on the pitch, so realistically he can never play the majority of a game /any period in which we are not winning again at an absolute minimum.
To be honest, I think it's pretty ideal for Nate to be fairly lazy in this system - it's true that in a purely defensively-focused midfield stopper role, he's very competent at this level, and he has good numbers. It's when he tries to trick and move forward and over-elaborate/hold on to the ball that his terrible decision-making comes into play and he starts losing the ball in dangerous areas and passing it to no one. Also, in fairness, we do have to take into account that he only played 45 minutes of the match, and his map is going up against Hughes' 90 and energizer bunny Cleverley's 61.
If JP and Hughes are rested tonight that's fine by me. The key is that they are fighting fit if we get into the play offs. The main thing is that our best formation is now clear to everyone. It took way too long to get here but we made it. We have every chance of making the play offs with this formation. Automatic is another matter and we need another #9 who can play 433 when JP is being rested. Just need 1 out of Success Perica Gray and Deeney to step up. Obviously Troy's reaction to the bleedin obvious is gonna be crucial but I wouldnt be surprised if he took the red pill, decided to man up and be cheerleader in chief and play when called upon without pi$$ing his pants or throwing his toys out of his pram. Here's hoping!!
He still has has some attributes but the issues he brings outweight those attributes. He slows down play and you have to drop one of the starting 11 from Saturday to fit him in. Do you drop Pedro and bring him in as a slow lumbering CF, do you drop Cleverley and hope his occasional insightful pass will make up for the lost mobility in the final third, or do you drop a MF/winger and revert to a failure-proven 4-4-2 ?
I heard Deeney is booked in today to finish off his Pro A licence on an official cheerleading course.
Deeney will turn up whenever he wants. Probably park his Bentley on the halfway line at 6.55pm and get out ready to call heads for the toss.
I think it would be good for Nate to get a booking for this one, miss the Derby game have a rest and then his suspension will be over for the following games against Blackburn and Bournemouth.
Troy has had ice on his knee since Saturday but Foster will drive him up later today and drop him off at Deepdale ready to start this evening.
