Apparently with a banner saying 'All is forgiven' too. There's a 3 million print run translated into 16 languages. It's usually 60,000. So 50x then! Excellent. That should put it up 'em!

It's published tomorrow so let's see if the Beeb are capable of growing a pair over the next 24 hours and actually show the cover rather than just talk about it. I'm gonna do whatever it takes to get hold of a copy but somehow doubt that W.H.Smith will have the necessary cojones ...

Blimey. I'm gonna lie down. Oh I am already. That would be a tactic yes but possibly a bit premature. It also sounds a bit like a declaration that the war of cultures is finally on big time too. So be careful what you wish for.

So let me get this right. Ten of your staff get murdered in cold blood and your solution is that those that are left should simply lie down and submit to the views of those that murdered them. Satire is allowed in our society. It's not gonna stop because ignorant thugs with guns say it should. Or because the rest of the tribe are just so sensitive over having their man depicted. That's their problem. We don't have the same rules. Neither does any other religion. Appeasement will not work because they are consumed by their medieval beliefs being totally and utterly correct to the exclusion of all else. But this is 2015 in secular western Europe and we think they're w.nkers.

Apparently the objection is that he's just so perfect that any image couldn't possibly do him justice. Well this is s bloke who had many wives, one of whom he 'de-flowered' when she was nine or ten years old. To this day that largely explains why underage 'brides' are shipped out from here in secret to marry some ugly, smelly, old medieval git in rural Pakistan and tiny little females are genitally mutilated all over the world to make sure they're pure for a paedo like Muhammad. So as a role model he'd have less of a chance of a short-term contract with a League One club than Ched Evans. And we're supposed not to draw a pic of this guy coz he's so damned perfect!

I'd like to see cartoons taking the p.ss out of him all over the place. How about big laser/neon displays on the Arc de Triomphe and in Piccadilly and Times Square?

You are a star! Whoops, I just re-posted it! Could be the start of a trend. I do hope so ...

Mind you it is pretty offensive. Worse than a Kalashnikov bullet in the brain really.

It's unfortunately titled fighting fire with fire but it would work. Islam would recoil at the thought of all Europe's mosques being closed down ... they would redouble their efforts to cure this malaise.

What's more it's a language that's easily understood, it's about time terrorists learn to understand their actions will hurt Islam as much as it hurts their targets.

Unless you are planning something sinister, then that knowledge about how things are monitored for security purposes will actually give you little benefit at all. Terrorists, who up till then were more unsure about what they were up against, were very grateful, however.

If you don't think our security services know best, then who does? Is it Keith Vas, he seems to think so? What makes you think that the public know what is needed in this field better than MI5 or MI6? The point is that once the public become involved politics affects the decisions, and not usually for the better. Invariably an unsatisfactory compromise would have been chosen, and the enemy would have full details. Monitoring to prevent terrorism doesn't have a political element. It is about which hardware and software is used, and when. These are technical questions.

You see, I am only about 5% concerned that Geoffrey sitting at his computer in Cheltenham, or his boss, or his boss's boss are going to be remotely interested in using info on my phone calls, emails or internet searches, etc. if some of the data on me was illegally sold in the future more commercial purposes, then whilst annoying, it is hardly going to be life changing, as Google, Tesco, et al, already use the info in the same way so they can focus their adverts. That is why I get adverts for fast cars and holidays at the bottom of this page, and you get adverts for dating sites and Viagra. :naughty:

But, I trust MI5 and MI6, so I am 95% comfortable that there are currently many people plotting to kill innocent people in this country. So I am not concerned about them, or GCHQ, and I feel that if I was lefty leaning in this matter, and worried in the same way as you are, then I would graciously accept that my political bias must be put to one side, for the greater good.

I know that ISIS will be hoping that your "side" wins.

I know that I am probably in the vast minority here, but then I am used to that.

I think I disagree, cos it would just alienate the majority of Islam and as I have said plenty of times before, I think the solution to this problem, is in their hands, rather than the rest of us playing hardball.

The solution has never been further away. Once again Islam will make all the right noises for about a week and then they will go about their business as if nothing happened. The majority of Christendom is alienated in the middle east but there's no terrorists threat from them. It doesn't follow that there should be.

I do get it. But all I was saying was that a broad sanction could have been sought in public. No need for any details about methodologies etc. And where do we end up? Someone on the inside, in the know, with access to all the material and who takes my view, blows the operation out of the water. If you go under the radar and lie on oath then don't you think it might have been anticipated that you'd get outed somehow, somewhere?

My principal concern is not for now. It's where will it all end? What's the end game here? I'd suggest 1984 or Brave New World.

I'm meeting Olga this afternoon. I'm quietly confident but no doubt it will become apparent if I need Viagra assistance or not. If I do then I expect the rest of the world to know about it instantaneously and adverts to appear at the bottom of a thread concerning red versus black shorts or suchlike almost immediately.

    I'll keep you posted.

P.S. Targeted adverts regarding Russian dating sites suggests 'in the game still'. Ones for fast cars suggest 'rampant mid-life crisis'.

It doesn't help they've been caught using the same technology for purely political spying. It's not a question of if but when they will start using it to dig the dirt to oust the incumbent or deride political opponents. MI6 is notoriously Tory.

Agreed. The slippery slope. There was of course a file on Harold Wilson in the 60s and 70s because the security service perceived him to be 'too close to the Russians'.

The terrorists are not worried about hurting 'Islam'. Their intention is to start a race war and any Muslims who don't join with them and wish to live peaceably in the West are also their enemies and apostates. This isn't going to happen and would not help.

Because while you lot are faffing on about stopping terrorists locally I'm on about getting to the crux of the matter globally. Asking the Imams to preach peace and goodwill is not quite the same as them being persuaded to denounce terrorism amongst their own.

Disagree. The hate starts with the teachings, already there's a fatwah against snowmen in Saudi Arabia because they're considered a western invention.

I think as far as the "left" is concerned it is a case of been there, done that, got the tee-shirt, lets move on. The extreme right pose more of a threat now, in my view, and between them and the Islamic issue, I think they have got their hands full for a few years yet.

An aside. I am currently in a very traditional bar half way up Leith Walk. Two blokes have just been evicted for what might best be described as 'gay snogging'. There was a a bit of an altercation with the born and bred Leither landlord.

Another bloke has just walked in. He has a pair of spectacles TATOOED on his dish. I'm unsure if he'll be using them for reading or driving. I think his girlfriend might be an Inuit.

    All human life eh?

For me, there is a world of difference between abusing a person because of their religious beliefs and poking fun at religion itself and its inherent hypocrisies. I'm sorry, Molly, but this is the point I think you are missing in your rush to imply that Hebdo cartoonists 'got what they deserved' (a view which is pretty shocking in itself). The lawyer representing the new editor of Hebdo reflects this in a far more eloquent way than I could in the quote below:

'We have never criticised a Jew because he's a Jew, a Muslim because he's a Muslim or a Christian because he's a Christian.
'But you can say anything you like - and we do – about Christianity, Judaism and Islam, because that's the reality of Charlie Hebdo.'

Do you think that 'hate' starts in the teachings in ordinary mosques? Plenty of hate in Wahhabism, or in extreme Shia such as the oppressive Iranian state sponsored form of Islam. But are the later two to stand for all Islam?

I know exactly what you are saying and yes I'm sure there would be rifts but the strength of the message will bridge many gaps ... it should also reduce the size of the pool from where the terrorists emerge.

Even if not directly against western governments, most clerics preach all evil about western values. I really think it's high time for them to comprehend just how privileged they actually are.

I didn't imply that the Hebdo cartoonists got what they deserved. Yes, they were morons, but they couldn't have imagined the horrific consequences they suffered.

What I state outright is that anyone who sees the attacks and then goes out of their way to provoke another one deserves everything they get. I just hope that no one else gets caught up in it - but of course they will.

What is likely to have started is a cycle of offensive cartoon, followed by atrocity, followed by offensive cartoon etc, which could go on forever. I'd have thought the so-called intelligent side in all this would think "Hmm, maybe the way to break this cycle is to stop drawing Muhammad".

I'd just like to reiterate that it isn't just the extremists that will be outraged by this latest cartoon - millions of peace-loving Muslims will also be upset. So why be a **** about it? Surely there's other stuff to draw.

How about Israel ,making a whole song and dance about the Sunday Times cartoon of Netanyahu. Playing the antisemite cars, even though only Netanyahu was the target of their cartoon? Hypocrisy.
