I'm trying to be positive, but frankly everything is suspect these days, isn't it? We should have an all Steroids olympics and see who competes.
yes and no, we qualified fastest, however all of the other big teams (USA, Bahamas's and so on) will bring in there better runner's. However GB used there strongest team and they had to push it all the way apart from rooney on the final leg who eased up with 50m to go. the women's 4x400m is probably a better medal chance.
Yeah we have Ohorogou (sp???) for the womens. But mens we have a chance of getting a medal, whether it'll be gold is another matter.
Spot on. Add to that prize money from the event host and it makes perfect sense for him to have let up in the last 15m.
I remember the Russian pole vaulter who used to keep breaking the world record a centimeter at a time, made him a few roubles for sure.
I hope we don't get carried away with GB success in this Olympics. Aside from the heroics at the velodrome and on the water, largely we had some disgraceful disapointments. In the athletics we have been pathetic and most of the athletics team should be embarassed. If we're seriously hoping to make an impact at 2012 there is still a lot of work to be done by our other sportspeople, who can't rely on our rowers, cyclists and rowers to win all our medals.
But you're forgetting that we are allowed to rig all events that require judging. And our basketball team has one of the biggest stars in the NBA in. And our problems with the youth are paying off. We had a lot of lads who are practised in scraps in the boxing this year, and by 2012 I'm sure we'll have some refined shooters.
Will they add the bowie knife class to the fencing, along with the sabre, epee and foil? We should have a few good kids for that.
Speaking of Olympics. Is anybody going to the party in London tommorow? Featuring the musical stylings of: Scouting For Girls McFly Il Divo Katharine Jenkins and many, many more. No? Just me then. Look out on the TV. I have a beard and will be the miserable looking one.
US would dominate that event if this was 1830. Today, not so much. I give the nod to the Aussie's: We might do well in 2012 if the event was uzi drive-by target shooting, with the similar category of the M60 from the moving hummvee.
Borris was hiliarious, standing there with his hands in his pockets, looked like he'd just got out of bed :]]
michael phelps has 4 years to "improve" his game and get even more medals, if that is at all possible
He's a fecking disgrace. Stumbling along with his hands in his pockets saluting the crowd. What an image. I hope he's out on his arse by 2012.
I was reading his article about the Olympics in the London Paper on Fri. Anyone would think it was him that had won London the bid!! If i remember it was Ken who was mayor at the time (ok granted he had flaws as well) and for the elections all Boris did was moan about how much the Olympics were costing. Now surprise surprise he's talking about the legacy and benefits it will leave A similar situation is how Barwick claims Wembley is his legacy. Again it was not him in charge when the plans were made or work began. In fact all that happened during his reign was the completion date became delayed and the costs grew Rant over - just annoys me how quick people in power are to claim things as their own ideas!
Thing is, Boris is now on about cutting costs. Typical Tory tactics really. I'm no fan of excess waste but public spending of all kinds - and in this case the Olympic legacy is a much more obviously of public benefit than any other - will be knackered when Dave takes over in a couple of years time :dismay:
You know, I thought you all were being a little harsh on the man. At least I did until just now. I watched the prime time coverage of the closing ceremonies here and um...he kind of looks like a blond version of Billy-Bob Thornton as the lead in Slingblade. Wow. He has NO sense of ceremony. Couldn't anybody get him a suit that fit? I got the feeling the Chinese guy and the IOC dude were a little embarrassed to be seen on the same stage. PS Jimmy Page looks like George Washington...who knew?
When you hear Michael Phelps talk, does his accent embarass you? Oh yeah, he's not English. Keep swimming and shut up.
The man was knackered, he ran our best leg 43.8, the rest of the pillocks left him far to much to do!!! I totally agree UEA the man was an embarrassment!!! That's our Boris Fitz, and you thought you had problems with George Bush :]]
2 United States United States (USA) 36 38 36 110 population: 300 million 4 Great Britain Great Britain (GBR) 19 13 15 47 population: 60 million with 5 times the population and only double the medals? we win.
Both these provinces' totals should really be added to our medals total anyway, seeing as they are just outposts of the Empire.
Ah the halcyon days of the world. Think how much better the world would be if we owned the planet again.
