It was. Interesting to hear you say it was not like that live. Anyone else who went to the game feel the same way? Those of us listening to the 3CR coverage were filling our pants.
Nope, definitely nervous, as were plenty around me. Mainly due to us giving the ball away so often and the speed of Forests counterattacks. Looking back with a calmer head we kept them to long shots mostly and was probably so nervy due to importance of the win
We're at least guaranteed playoffs now. We'd have all bitten arms off for that at the start of the season. Regardless of where we go from here, with 4 managers and Lloyd Dyer, we've got playoffs. Congratulations. What an amazing season, whatever happens.
I think that's a reminder to take what we hear on the radio with a sizable grain of salt - it's just one man's opinion and I suppose maybe he was over-hyping the chances Forest had so as to make it not look like he was overly-biased towards Watford, as there could have been Forest fans in the area following it (I'm half-guessing as I don't often listen to 3CR as the reception is pretty poor here and I'm not very familiar with Jon Marks' commentary). It reminds me a bit of how Alan Green was typically moaning about how awful England were, constantly giving the ball away in their 0-0 at Turkey that got them to Euro 2004, when just about everyone else who saw the game was praising online the professional and disciplined performance England put in. Or basically different people just view things differently...
Igloo is the top scorer in the country in 2015 by 2 clear goals ....and he's be injured! ...and he's been rotated with Matty! Amazing
Not the best performance but what does that matter? All we needed to do was get the 3 points and we did. We seemed a bit sloppy on the ball today and looked to be rushing it up to Deeney and Ighalo instead of letting the midfield influence the game which we have done in recent weeks. I agree with zztop I thought we were comfortable enough and that we still had another gear in us if needed.
I think being at the game generally you feel a lot less nervous. You aren't filling all the gaps in the commentary with doubt and you feel as if you have more control over the match.
I listened on the radio for about 20 minutes during a car journey and one thing I will talk about is Steve Claridge. Plenty of times he has been slated on here for having a grudge against us but in the 20 minutes I listened to he couldn't have been nicer about us. Thought he was extremely fair.
It always is the bad play sound horrendous and the good play always sounds world class.. but you ALWAYS get sucked in. In fairness marks is excellent at commentary for radio. Great Result, We can keep it going
Seen a ridiculous number of negative comments after a crucial 3-1 win at the City Ground. Has the world gone mad? Other thoughts: 1) Abdi's sitter... well he created it himself, it's a bad miss, but sitter is disrespectful to the great man 2) Did Ighalo kick out? I hope not, but we will never know if the cameras missed it. No way he can be suspended.
A thought to add to the "Other thoughts"....not all comments are to be taken seriously. We all know the man's a genius.
Every time I hear the word 'Forest', I immediately think of this.
Just got in. Havent seen any highlights but the red card looked spot on to me, after a 50:50 between Ighalo and their bloke they tumbled over and he kicked out with two feet and caught him. Had to go! We capitulated after that, had a shocking 10-15 minutes and let them back into the game. It was certainly nervy and flat around where I was sat behind the goal. Forest could have easily equalised, but it would've been very harsh on us. Abdi ran the show, it's a pleasure to have him back!
Pretty fair comments by Freedman, I think: http://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/sp...e_me_Troy_Deeney_and_it_is_a_different_game_/
A great 3 points and move on. No team is perfect for 90+ minutes. Take the result. I expect Narch to beat Boro and us to get a better result vs Brum leaving us 2nd at least with 2 to go. A win at Skidrow on sea and its in our own hands on the final day. Automatics beckon. Believe and support and the dream becomes reality. Dispel all doubt- PMA. Gomes p.o.t.s as his contribution the most influential of all. COYH's

I'll do a longer write up of my views in a bit (because who doesn't love to waste 2 seconds of their day scrolling past an overly long report?), but I just wanted to make sure this got a response. Are you serious?! I don't think I've ever been that nervous at a match, my heart was pounding. 2-0 up against a ten-man, mid-table side with nothing to play for, then suddenly we're only one goal up and they're on the front foot - I'm not ashamed to say I was absolutely ****ting it for about 15 minutes of the second half. Until our third goal, in fact.
Fun fact: Bournemouth and Boro both lost to Dougie Freedman's Nottingham Forest team at the City Ground, and Norwich lost there against Stuart Pearce earlier in the season, meaning we're the only one of the Top 4 to come away with a positive result. Stolen from the Daily Mail. Apologies if wrong.
Agreed. Personally, I've never had a problem with Claridge. OK, he's not as considered and knowledgeable as Leroy on the FLS and is prone to blunders like not knowing how our owners/director of football/head coach system works but I've never noticed any particular malice directed at us. Correct me if I'm wrong guys. But on a match commentary there's something about his childlike enthusiasm for belting a ball around a field for 90 mins (which we all share) that's infectious. What was most noticeable last night was his constantly waxing lyrical about the excitement of the game. OK, maybe not that difficult given the stats though. Forest - 22 shots, 11 on target. Us - 23 shots, 10 on target. There are plenty worse than Claridge. How, for example, is Phil Neville allowed anywhere near football punditry? Never says anything remotely interesting and is a pale imitation of his brother. He strikes me as simply a nasty piece of work with a silly voice.
On last night's substitutions: 1. Hoban for Connolly - 62 mins. Like for like. Didn't Connolly take a knock in the first half? 2. Paredes for Motta - 71 mins. Like for like. Motta on a yellow. 3. Tozser for Anya - 73 mins. So the first two may have been forced on the Joka to some extent and we don't necessarily know the exact reasons. Where his substitutions have been most effective is when he's had the freedom to make tactical changes in combination. Last night he knew we were under the cosh when Forest got the bit between their teeth after their red card. So, with his one tactical shot, he went for shoring up the midfield with Tozser immediately after their goal. It didn't really work though and we remained under the cosh until Almen's clincher. On the shoutbox I was one of those calling for a Vydra/Iggy change. A standard like for like around the hour mark. But, with hindsight, it's likely that the Joka knew something we didn't at that point and didn't feel able to go for it. He had to change something with potentially limited resources and Vydra for Iggy wouldn't have achieved that. Last night just shows what an adrenalin rush and getting pumped up can do for a team. That probably had as least as much an affect on Forest's performance after the red card as any shortcomings on our behalf. Other motivations can do that too. Like seeing as you've got nothing to play for you might as well grab some headlines by taking down one of the big boys or being regarded as no-hope cannon fodder and lambs to the slaughter. We need to be entirely professional for each of our remaining games now because you can be sure that Gary Rowett, Chris Hughton and Stuart Gray will be using exactly that sort of stuff as motivation. I have no doubt the Joka has it covered though.
Ha ha, I can't argue with that, it is your opinion, and no reason for me to doubt that many other fans felt the same way as you. I was just talking personally and from how the fans around my little area felt. I just felt they didn't threaten us that much. I wasn't trying to mislead!
I thought Claridge was okay until his unfair 'summing up' at the end of the game, talked and absolute load of crxp at that point, if I'm honest would have preferred to listen on 3CR instead where I much prefer the commentary or watch on Sky. Game last night was one hell of a nightmare to listen to, but was brilliant to we went for the win from the start (wobble a bit in the middle) and then re-go for it at the end! We really have to keep going in a game we have the talent to constantly attack, we really shoudn't ever fall back as thats when we get problems. Gomes was fantastic last night and it was great to have Abdi back, Igahlo was again great, but would like to have seen more of Deeney though. Onwards and upwards! We need to keep focused against Brum, their form has improved but I think we can beat them, we need to kick in plenty of goals over the next few games to keep pressure on Norwich (who i hate to say it I think will beat Boro in a tense match). Most important though as many people have said on here we need to win the final three! Great result and we are now in a fantastic spot now to go for glory!!!! COYH!!!
