If im honest I preferred the sound of an 18 month deal, rather than 2 1/2 years.

However, I suspect we had to make a trade off between wages and contract length, less per week but more security for a player coming towards the end of his career.

All in all a great signing, lets hope he maintains his performance levels for us, unlike players such as Hughes/Vernazza who took their feet off the pedal once they had a permanent deal.

"NYRON NOSWORTHY has signed a two-and-a-half year contract with the Hornets.

Having played 13 consecutive matches on loan for Watford from Premier League Sunderland, the Black Cats have agreed to Nosworthy's permanent transfer to Vicarage Road under undisclosed terms.

"It feels like home here," the 31-year-old told Hornets Player minutes after penning his contract, during an exclusive interview for subscribers.

"Credit to the manager here for the chance he gave me to play - and for helping make this deal happen.

"I'm also grateful to Sunderland for letting me get on with playing first-team football, which is what I need at this stage in my career," Nosworthy added.

"It's a very professional set-up at Watford. Training is enjoyable and the whole club has impressed me."

Watford manager Sean Dyche couldn't hide his delight at getting the deal done. "I think this an outstanding piece of business for our club, considering everything remains within the financial constraints we have here.

"Steve Bruce and Martin O'Neill have both been tremendously helpful towards this club, and that's something we should all recognise while we reflect on this great development for our squad."

if Mariappa & Sordell stay, Deeney starts scoring a FEW more, and we have 1 player of Kightly's ability on loan we could have a very strong 2nd half of the season because in my opinion were not far of being a very good side.

Well done watford for believing that we could sign him and getting it sorted. It is great news, and the player wants to be here as well which makes a great difference.

We've now got good competition for central defence when Tiny is back. Ideally I'd like to see three players competing for two starting positions with another developing youngster as number 4.

My first ever post on the forums! Just wanted to say how pleased I am that we'ved signed Nosworthy. Personally I think he has been a great addition to the side and helped a back four that scared the life out of me early on in the season. One or two more deals this month and I think we'll be a side with pretty decent prospects.

Welcome Rory. Agree completely with what you've said.

WO say the transfer fee is unlikely to be excessive as Nosworthy only had six months left on his contract.

    More from Dyche...

    http://www.watfordfc.com/page/NewsDetail/0,,10400~2571560,00.html

"IT would be a long list of thank yous to run through everyone who has enabled Nyron Nosworthy to join the Hornets on a permanent basis, for there are many who play key roles, however Watford manager Sean Dyche was more certain about where his own gratitude lay as he reflected on "a bit of a coup".

He said: "I think it's important we recognise the part played by both Steve Bruce and Martin O'Neill; first Steve in allowing Nyron to join us on loan and then for Martin to allow the deal to go through.

"It's also a tribute to this club; to the environment that is present around the place that a player is able to settle in straight away.

"We're very pleased and feel fortunate to have found a way to have made this deal happen within the financial constraints that exist at this club," he added.

The 31-year-old centre-back, as well as seamlessly slotting in alongside Ady Mariappa, has made a big impression in general with the Hornets.

"For a player to have made such a mark with fellow players, staff and supporters in a relatively short space of time speaks volumes about Nyron as a man, as well as a footballer," added the manager.

"I'm sure we all feel, and by that I mean everyone connected with the club, that this is another strong addition to the squad.

"I've talked recently about how important it is to add quality at the right time and, with Sunderland's assistance, we've managed to do that with Nyron.

"We've got to be careful with how we do our business. It's not an easy task, a signing like this, but it can be done."

Superb effort by Dyche and the backroom staff... i really didnt expect this one to come off but fair fookin play too ALL involved including Nyron

This is a BIG step forward make no mistake.. Nyron has performed and I am sure would have had interest from elsewhere.. He's 31, his agent WILL have been touting him so for him to stay is a huge result for us

Yes Mapps will be linked to elsewhere but for now, lets focus on the positive. I get the feeling this month isnt going to be as bad (player trading wise) as some on here think!

That probably depends on how much Mr Integrity wants him & how much dosh he's willing to offer. Every player has his price. From what I've heard, no formal offer has yet been made.

Well he has certainly surprised me with his form since he joined, after watching him twice for Shef Utd, I thought he would be dire but congratulations to the management team and Nyron:)

I hope we will be shipping out Mirfin now.

Thompson and Bennet must be considering their futures though with him being on such a long contract, unless Nascot is right though.

Translates as when Bruce gets a new club, we still want to do business with him and if O'Neill wants to send any young starlets our way we will be only too happy to accomodate them.

Terrific news though, welcome back Nyron, I'm very, very pleased indeed with this news.

When Nyron arrived back in Sunderland the first thing he did was contact Martin O'Neill and arranged a meeting, which took place early this morning. Nyron then explained how he felt Watford was home to him, he's enjoyed every second and wanted to stay down south. Martin O'Neill granted him premission to leave Sunderland after contacting a few importants heads. Nyron's agent then contacted Watford and a deal was made that satisfied both Nyron's Agent and Watford.

This is a quite incredible signing, considering it all fits into Watford's pay structure. I think a lot of credit has also got to go to Nosworthy himself who clearly has made this move a reality. I thought players with an attitude like him were exinct a long time ago. He just wants to play football and loves it at Watford. This is a massive boost for the club and everyone connected. Superb piece of business Dychey and this is a massive coup for the club. Let's hope one or two more will now follow.

Yes, that's exactly how I see it also. I know Watford are trying to get Tommy Smith, either on loan or permanent but it is now all up in the air because of the change of management. Don't forget McGinn will be back soon and will seem like a new signing if he manages to get his pre-injury form. We need to offload a couple like Iwelumo and Mirfin. Walker is on his way to S****horpe which will free up some money. I hope we don't sell any of our "premium" players or else it will be a case of one step forward and two steps back. If we hang on to Sordell & Mapps and bring in Smithy, then the second half of the season should see us sail away from the drop zone and may even flirt with the playoffs.

Completely forgot about McGinn, he appears to be coping well with his rehabilitation and hopefully he will regain his form. I would like to see Cotterill possibly sign as well as Smudge. I swear I remember someone from the club saying that we don't have to sell in January, so hopefully the club stick to their guns. It is a shame Walker never settled in but thats the way it is sometimes. Iwelumo and Mirfin days appear to be numbered as you have indicated. I would like to see some of the youngsters get some game time soon but I am not too sure on Dyche's philosophy with the youth.

Maybe I'm reading between the lines but does it also say that a deal was struck in principle in advance of January and O'Neil was happy to let it continue.
