Nigel Pearson - Sacked

An absolutely rancid decision by an absolutely rancid club. Not because Nigel Pearson is the best manager in the world, although he's done a job here and didn't deserve to be humiliated in this fashion. He was commissioned to keep a team up who were 9 points adrift and looking hopeless in every department. I took issue with some of his management decisions but he fully deserved the last two games to finish the job and to part ways on decent terms if they didn't fancy him long-term. Unless something has occurred behind the scenes which we're not party to, then this looks like a contemptuous, grossly unfair and utterly disrespectful way to treat a manager. Now we're going to enter into a nigh-on impossible relegation battle with two inexperienced coaches in charge against two of the biggest clubs in the world.

Apart from anything else, who is going to want to come here now? What credible and capable manager would consider coming and working for this laughing stock, knowing they'll be sacrificing their professional reputation at the altar of Gino's pathetic small-**** ego?

I'm absolutely flabbergasted and for the very first time since we were taken over 8 years ago, I think we have the wrong people in charge. These aren't our values. This isn't what our club represents. I'd rather be a mid-range Championship side with local lads and a bit of team spirit instead of this miserable warehouse for foreign loans who'll never play for us and hapless last-chance mercenaries who don't give a f*ck about the club. I'd rather watch Joe Garner up front than have Andre Gray anywhere near my side, a homophobic wannabe "G" who flaunted lockdown rules, put his team at risk, has looked conference standard all season and yet still gets into the side ahead of younger, hungrier players. I'd rather sit in the cold on a Tuesday night at Southend then watch us treat managers like dogsh!t we can wipe off whenever our disgusting recruitment policy and our incompetent technical staff want to distract from their unfathomable incompetence. I'd rather see a team of Lloyd Doyleys every week then watch Deeney puffing around with a broken knee and a beer gut while Capoue naps in the centre circle.

This is an absolute travesty of a season in an absolute travesty of a year. Give me something for the pain and let me die.

Why have these two threads been amalgamated? As it has made the whole thread difficult to follow and nonsensical IMO :(

Watford have taken 25 points (from 20 played) since Nigel Pearson’s first match in charge on December 14

Chart with upwards trend That’s more points than Leicester (24), Newcastle (21), West Ham (21) & 5 other teams over that time

Was he sacked because he didn't follow up by punching the rest of them? Fair enough if so.

There are a number of people talking about this Pearson/Masina thing...

Telegraph have reported than Giraldi was the one who told them they were sacked. That’s not his job is it? Why not Duxbury??? Something very bizarre going on.

I would not even blame Pearson for chinning one or two of them after that game. Might have been beneficial in a few cases.

I genuinely said to my West Ham mate in the pub that it wouldn’t surprise me if the new chilled out Pearson gave way to the mental version at some point. And I commented on here that Masina put in one of the more rancid 45mins I’ve seen from a Watford player in quite a while.

I didn’t link the two issues. But seems like Nigel’s fist might’ve done.

Get him in. If there's one man who can sort a defence out it's him.

Not sure if it's been posted already but form table of the 20 games he was in charge. Comfortably 15th, and when you consider that mad week or two where we dropped points against Everton, Villa and Brighton we'd have scored at least two more points and be 13th.

    https://www.twtd.co.uk/league-tables/competition:premier-league/form/matches:20/type:home-and-away/

He may not be amazing but he's been doing a decent job.

By comparison, Arteta has managed 2 less games and scored only 2 more points with a much better set of players.

I think the lockdown has laid bare his limitations as a coach. His style thrives off momentum, motivation and the crowds. Without that there is very little. Countless games have shown the difference between us and well coached teams (Saints, Burnley, WHU etc.).

The timing of it stinks though.

This, remember, is a bloke who reportedly kept a slavering pack of wolves at bay for a fortnight, single handedly invaded Syria when everyone was goofing about in Iraq and who had a twitter spat with Matt Lucas (probably). It'll be no surprise whatsoever if he bared his monstrous forearms at the likes of Cleverley, Quina and any of the waifs in the youth teams. He may have drawn the line at confronting Holebas though.

  28. Let's be honest, who wasn't calling for his head when he subbed Gray on v West Ham. I know I was. Don't get me wrong, I admire Pearson greatly, but ploughing on with the same proven-to-be-useless tactics was starting to grate.

Pearson was obviously unhappy with the performance. His post-match comments made that obvious.

Not hard to envision it all boiling over behind the scenes if he was that blunt in public.

Just saw this from Clinton Morrison:

This feels pretty close to the mark for me. Seems bizarre (and potentially counterproductive) to sack him two games from the end of the season when he seen us out of the relegation zone, so it feels likely there was some kind of explosive catalyst.

I assume the club will make that known if so; they'll look beyond loopy if they don't.

Right, no more fooling around now, no more stop-gap managers, no more sentimental decisions, we need someone to build around for the next few years now. Struber at Barnsley who's done a fantastic job under difficult circumstances, Lee Johnson, who fell a bit flat at Bristol City this past year but who has progressed them over 5 years, or Danny Cowley who saved Huddersfield before getting the chop earlier today, someone like that would be the ticket. As I said before, look at Southampton, they were looking awful, but they stuck by Ralph and they're looking a very good team now

Bringing on Gray for a one legged Deeney is hardly a sackable offence. More to it than that.

Limited managers the Cowleys. Takes you only so far up the league. You need a little more subtlety and finesse when you climb the pyramid. GT had that. A very clever calculating manager. One of the best ever managers produced in England.
