NFL Draft starts today at 5pm. I thought I would post for anyone that is interested.

    QB Jamarcus Russell
    QB Brady Quinn
    OT Joe Thomas
    WR Calvin Johnson
    RB Adrian Peterson

seem to be the top 5 prospects, and we will see which order they go in later this evening.

At the end of every season they put all the college players in a pot (not literally of course) and then the NFL teams take turns to pick a player that they want.

It goes in reverse order, hence the team that finished last gets the first pick, and the team that won the superbowl picks last in each round.

There are 7 rounds of picking and it lasts 2 days. The players that I posted are the pundits top 5 players and are expected to be the first 5 players chosen. My money is on QB Jamarcus Russell being picked first but it is rarely a given who goes first.

Hence, the teams that finish near the bottom get the players who are supposedly 'better' than the teams that came near the top. That and the salary cap keeps the NFL competitive.

Just got in, very surprised to see Quinn so low down. Thought Cleveland would pick him up. It isn't on tv is it?

Wasn't Quin meant to be the expected first choice a while ago? I get the draft system and understand it fairly well, it is when they do those weird trades like a player for first 2nd round pick in the draft etc. Then it gets confusing. When I was in America a few years back, I got to see a few games, it is a great day out even the college games, 4hours of drinking and eating with the occaional 10 seconds of play, similar to watching Watford really!

I am going to ignore that ;D

You can watch it online, go to nfl.com and select 'Watch now'. Obviously there will be nothing on atm - second day starts again today at 5pm.

The teams at the top needed a QB but only Oakland picked one leaving Brady Quinn to go unselected for almost half the round. Then towards the end of the First round when it looked like he would make it into the second round to when the teams that needed a QB would have a chance to pick him, Cleveland made a trade with the Dallas Cowboys to get in at the end of the first round to select Quinn. It is a shame he went so low, but to be fair all the teams that passed on him really didn't need him.

Do they all stand in a field and have captains then pick one by one ??
