Unfortunately I think you are correct, however a young, keen, thirsty track suited Manager ala G.T. when he started (with some experience) is what we need, not some beenroundtheblocksmokingoldgit!
I know there is no way it could happen but I'd like Dyche if he could work under the Head Coach rather than Mgr model.

He did grow up in Amersham, and he did come and watch Watford play as a kid; he once said his Grandad used to take him. He's an Everton fan though; he went to the '84 Cup Final and was 'converted'.
So many talented managers in Germany, no idea why more PL clubs don't go for them to be honest. Usually speak decent English as well!
I'd like us to get Mancini, will get us organized, is likable, is a big name to attract some decent signings, will get us fitter and has that winning mentality.

I agree mate, and a lot of them have age on their side too. It seems crazy to me that there is all this talent in that league a teams keep signing journeymen managers like Pardew, Pearson etc

Posted in the Mazzarri thread, but it's relevant here too: Ranieri would be excellent, I have no idea why some are so against him. The man won the Premier League with a squad not much better than ours. I will never claim to be ITK generally, but something I can tell you for an absolute fact is that there was most certainly a somewhat pathetic rebellion by a number of the Leicester players after winning the title, which ultimately lead to Ranieri's dismissal. Ranieri wanted the squad to buckle down and try their best to kick their careers on and attempted to introduce more strict rules on diet and lifestyle, to which a number of players responded to with a middle finger and effectively downed tools. A classic case of moron footballers letting success go to their heads rather than taking the opportunity to elevate themselves to greater heights. Oh, and before anyone tries to make comparisons to how some of our players have supposedly responded similarly towards Mazzarri, there's a huge difference between treating a almost universally well thought of, Premier League winning manager that has just taken you from complete obscurity to champions of England that way, compared to a manager that has quite clearly done nothing but take you and the club backwards. It's completely wrong either way, but my point still stands.
Or you could say he had to be a control freak to handle the likes of Yaya Toure, Nasri, Balotelli and Tevez. Having said that Tevez did escape back home to play golf for 6 months.
Silva for me. It's an obvious choice. Beautifully conditioned, luxurious mane of hair. Swarthy, roguish good looks that makes women wet and grown men weep with envy Looks amazing in a suit. Like really good. Incredible in fact. Also looks good in a big winter coat. Imagine being that coat, tightly wrapping yourself around his muscular frame. Hnnnng. Eyes so piercing they penetrate your very soul. You could get lost in those eyes. Also won some football matches with hull.
There's also a young guy (29!) called Julian Nagelsmann in charge of Hoffenheim and has taken them to great heights in the Bundesliga. Think they are 4th and just a few points off Dortmund and Leipzig...could be similar to Howe and perhaps more interested to listen to offers... For me, we have such a big opportunity now to make a progressive appointment and show what type of club we want to be for the next 5-10 years. Although I see no real issue with Mancini/Ranieri (my head says it will be one of these 2), to me they just keep the status quo of what we are already doing. What does my heart say? Swallow a huge amount of pride, open the chequebook and try and get Rodgers back....
He's just reached the CL with them, I can't see him leaving Hoffenheim (who are pretty rich) yet. He's destined to be the next Bayern Munich manager when Ancelotti leaves after next season IMO.
The two people who've been most spoken so far have both managed teams who've been in the bottom three at some point this season, lower in fact than we ever sunk!
Hoping desperately that we bring in somebody who is young and progressive thinking. Somebody who could see themselves being here for 3-5 years and really building something. Somebody who wants to build a younger, faster and much fitter side. Not sure who that person might be, but I think it's what we need going forward.
I thought he was offered an insultingly small rise, designed to encourage him to resign. However, I didn't see the paperwork and so can't verify this.
Silva would be fine, as would Mancini. I'd forgotten Slutsky existed, but his record speaks for itself. Ranieri would be a risk - he often starts well but can't sustain it (Monaco, Inter etc as well as Leicester) and we could be back in this position in a years time. Nagelsmann would be crazy to come here. Couple more names into the mix: Gasperini has (bit like Mazzarri) been tainted by a short-lived nightmare at Inter but his Atalanta side have been great this season. Las Palmas have fallen away recently but Quique Setien had them playing great football, extracted a lot from a pretty average side and is out of contract. There are rumors that Cocu will leave PSV this summer as he's taken them as far as he can - he's lost key players every year and it already looks like they'll be short Guardado for next season. He's been linked with a little team called Barcelona though, so it's a long shot.
+1 for Setien, although the reaction on here for hiring someone called Quique may be too much to handle.
Slutski would be a good choice, likes to play attacking football with pace on the wings. And he speaks English.
Some good posts and discussion. Ginos leadership style certainly makes our summers more interesting. Two points for discussion 1- I wonder how much of a benefit is to speak English ? Yes it helps in connecting to the fans and media but by far the majority of our players come from Spanish, French and Italian speaking countries or have played in their leagues and so can all understand each other well enough without speaking the others language . You can add Portuguese to that also. All the back room staff are Italian speaking along with the owner. English would be the least spoken of languages at our club bar the canteen ladies. Is it really a problem I wonder ? 2- why do people think Gino didn't wait until next week . They are clearly not going to name the new manager this week are they ? Changing room insurrection so bad that they couldn't proceed ? Not so sure because I think players have shown a lot of commitment in recent games .
I'm trying to think of managers in the PL over recent seasons who didn't speak English. Poch at first, but he made a real effort to learn it and improved a lot as he went on at Southampton to reach the level of competency he's at now. I don't think Scolari did, and he didn't last long. Any others come to mind?
If you're looking at good young German managers the job Alexander Nouri has done at Werder Bremen has been exceptional, taking them from the edge of the relegation zone to flirting with a European place, all built on dynamic attacking football. Wouldn't mind seeing some of that at Watford next season.
