[CONFIRMED] New signings announced 1st July

With all this transfer speculation going on, (most of which is untrue but it's fun to talk and debate about it). I thought it would be fun to have a little prediction poll of how many signings we will announce on 1st July.

We all know that Watford as a club tend to keep their transfer targets/dealings under the radar. We are normally surprised every transfer window because there will be no links or stories about a player who was just announced as a new Watford player.

So I wouldn't be surprised if some deals are already done and we hear about them on 1st July.

Exactly, it's very smart from Gino. Nothing happens on a Saturday a part from football, but with no football to be played, he will announce summer signings instead. Well hopefully, if not it will definitely be Monday, if not Monday it will definitely be before our first game of the season, if not then, then it will definitely be by 11pm 31st August, although that is on a Thursday and nothing happens on a Thursday. So in essence we're signing no-one. Close the thread mods, the dream is over.

 

If we've bought someone why would we announce them on the 1st July instead of the date we actually signed them?

True but you see it all the time, especially those who have be bought in on a pre-contract.

Supposedly we have signed Femenia and Aogo on pre-contract deals. If true, the club haven't announced it for whatever reason, but most outlets are saying they will become official players on 1st July.

 

But not really, plenty have people have officially signed for clubs already yet it's not the 1st July, waiting to announce something that's already done is pretty pointless. The pre-contract stuff is a valid point, but again clubs still announce those (like Kolasinac joining Arsenal)

 

The main reason we don't sign anybody until July 1st is because otherwise we would have to start paying them before they start training, and although "The Pozzo's" have been great for our club, they can be a bit penny pinching when it comes to spending money when they don't really have to

 

I''m not sure about that as players contracts usually run to the 30th June, so they are paid by their old club up until that time, then 1st July the new club takes over!

Signing before the 1st July come into effect on the 1st

However that doesn't explain as to why we are always later signing our players

 

We are later as they have to be absolutely sure that no-one else wants them. As soon as the stoke, WHU, Muff and Tring squads are completed they know we are the only chair left when the music stops.

 

It takes time to set up deals for good-quality players. As Roy Hodgson probably once said... "Slowly, slowly, catchy monkey"

 

I doubt Roy can remember that,he can't remember his school song or his former school football team mates.

 

We are always later in signing players because our approach requires a great deal of encryption, backchannels and covert rendezvous to give the Muff scouts who are following our boys around the slip and avoid them putting in a cheeky last minute '+£1' bid for every player we try to bring in before they're captured.

I've not even had breakfast yet. At this rate we should have another 12 or so by the end of the day

 

Right I'm going for 4 signings today. Seems realistic.. we've already had 2!

 

These 2 signings we have made today, not much build up on the rumour front to us signing these players. Out of the blue really, like the look of Kiko though.

 

These are the easy free transfers. Good business though.
Now for the "real"signings.
