Serious injuries: 17/11/2012 a leg break against Liverpool. 18/02/2014 a double leg break following a collision against Barnsley.
I almost passed out when I saw his last fee was £2mil, before realising that was to join Wigan rather than us.
I didn't even know he was on yesterday. From the Vic Rd end I can't hear any announcements and I was late back to my seat, missing the change over. Must've been crap though because he didn't even score.
Under rated by too many watford fans. When has he ever had a bad game for us ? Consistent and does the unsung ugly stuff
He had a great 90 minutes, not just second half. That was one of the best defensive midfield performances I've ever seen in a Watford shirt. He seemed to always be in the right place to clear/intercept/tackle and very rarely gave the ball away. What a shrewd signing, picking him up from a team that got relegated to Division 1!
There was a point in which I'm sure he was adamant to get on the score sheet. Ball rolling towards butland and who else but Watson charging it down! Top game from him today and motm by far
Glad to hear it. I don't keep up with Watford as much as i used to but on paper he looked the weak link
For me it's his. Clearly a training ground move, with Britos making a dummy run to draw their man from the back post and the fact he tried it twice last match and once before in the same match. I also don't buy that Hart was definitely going to save it before Kolarov's flick. However looking at it in isolation a corner is a cross rather than a shot, and 90% of inswingers are on target, so really a goal should only be given to the taker if no one else touches it before it goes in. I can see why the people who decide these things went with own goal.
The commentators didn't want to give it to Watson, as that would be 'disrespectful' to Joe Hart. I can't imagine them being so kind if it had been Gomes.
Are there different rules for corners though as even inswinging ones don't normally count as shots on goal in the stats?
But that's only for stats, the accreditation of goals is much a more serious affair. Put it this way, if last week's attempt had gone an inch further it would have been Ben's goal and this should be no different, it too was irrefutably on target.
You can't argue with Il Padrino on this one, it's a valid point. Plus he was close to scoring from a corner near the end of the first half vs Liverpool.
I agree it was deliberate shot on goal from Watson, the fact he had almost scored in two recent games doing the same thing should prove that it was intentional. Therefore it should be treated like any other shot on target that takes a deflection, there is no reason why it shouldn't be IMO!
Should be Watson's for all above reasons BUT dubious goals panel cannot upset England's gk who commentators said 'had it covered' so would never be awarded to Ben. End of
I'd give it to Watson, especially as I called a midfield goal in the Man City match thread, admittedly for the wrong player though:
Ben Scores From a Corner Not a Kolarov own goal according to the panel. Glad that we have another goal scorer in our team . https://twitter.com/WatfordFC/status/686518040016519173/photo/1
Our goal has now been officially credited to Ben Watson!!! His first goal for us! Ighalo has 'lost' his goal against Chelsea though. The Dubious Goals Panel have given it to Gary Cahill.
That means officially there were 2 goals directly from corners in the same week. One by Watson and one by Holmes.
Did I dream it or wasn't Ighalo's first goal vs West Ham originally an og (Aaron Cresswell I believe)?
Had 25p on our Ben anytime at 12/1. So that's £3.25 (including stake) that Joe Hart's ego has cost me. I hope he goes bloody bald.
