Seems to have limitless energy too. Has played every minute of every game since we faced Bournemouth away on 3rd October. No one else can say the same.
I was saying to my mate just yesterday that him and Cathcart (and probably Deeney) could play sat-tues-sat-Tues all season, with consistent performances, no problem. Watson was my MOTM yesterday. Great corners and, similar to how Ighalo has a knack of being in the right place at the right time in the box, Watson seems to have a knack of being in the right place at the right time in the centre of the park to intercept play, pick up lose balls etc.
That's a good point, I can't even remember seeing the guy run out of steam towards the end of a game.
Careful, the Jurado fan boys will be on here because they all hate Watson for working harder and generally being more effective than their idol.
Bit of an immature comment. You have accused me of being a Jurado 'fan boy' before but I'm a big fan of Watson, think he is a great player.
MOTM yesterday on BBC site. Been said before but Watson is one of those players you realise what he brings to the team when he's not playing. The glue that helps stick the team together. Excellent player, underrated.
Just like Cathcart, Abdi, Gomes and Deeney he is only one poor game off of being accused of being a Championship level player unable to make the step up.
I'm surprised that people are only just starting to recognise what Watson does for us, his been solid and consistent since he joined us. I can't remember him having a bad game for us.
Against Forest he was pretty ineffectual, but it was a game that he was never going to flourish in to be fair, given how they set up.
Watson has been superb mostly ,however, he really should not be amongst those in the frame to take our free kicks.I have not seen to much quality from him in that role. He can take a half decent corner most of the time. He does work his socks off all the time. IMO we need better quality in his position. Will wait and see if we have that already in Suarez as early days still. We have yet to see Behrami perform consistently enough to show he can replace Watson. I would be perfectly happy knowing we replaced him with that quality player who works as hard as he does and with Ben on the bench should he be required to step up as we know he will. Until then he is doing a pretty good job for us.
He certainly turned things round on his debut, 2-0 down at half time, Ben comes on makes a goal within 2 minutes and we win 7-2 (seven) not always easy on the eye but, very under-rated player, brilliant professional makes every thing stick in midfield and has been a fantastic signing for us!
Every time Watson puts in a bad performance and I think he should be rested, he then pulls out an absolute blinder. I was not a huge fan of his last season, felt he hoofed it far too often when there was an easy pass on, but this season he has been sensational and I think Flores style and desire for hard workers has really helped him. His experience has been a big help to the whole squad I think. Could he be the best pozzo signing so far?
Guedioura on Watson's 'sacrifice'. http://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/sp...ve_made_Watson_s_ sacrifice__says_Guedioura/ I am really, really uncomfortable with this. The professional foul is one thing (and bad enough) but praising Watson? I suppose I've never felt happy about some 'aspects' of the modern game. I'm old enough to have seen the 'first' professional foul (on TV) that led to it becoming a red-card offence: Willie Young bringing down Paul Allen in an FA cup final. If it got us a point then well played Watson. It's the same as getting a penalty these days, if you feel a touch then go down because you'll get **** all for staying on your feet.
Watson shouldn't have been the last man, made the right call. Professional fouls are part and parcel of the modern day game.
Whilst i'd say it's unsportsmanlike, **** sportsmanship at the level we're at. Football is a big business these days, both players and managers are paid obscene amounts of money to win points, if that means Watson dragging someone down to ensure a near certain goal, then by all means he made the right call, it's his job.
We all know what he means. In that split second do you commit the foul and face almost certain sending off, or let the player go and hope he doesn't score but even if does you're still on the pitch?
I'm not uncomfortable at all with this. Happens week in week out so why should we be the gentlemen about it. As said above, it's equally as bad if not worse than diving for a penalty, deliberate handball from an outfield player stopping a certain goal, pulling shirts in the box to stop an attacker getting to a header. They are all obstruction or bad foul play. But it's not aggressive or dirty. not harmful or nasty. It's a part of the game. Get over it. How many yellows do you think were handed out this weekend for deliberately stopping the flow of play vs actual fouls. In fact I'd argue that more that 50% of yellow cards nowadays are tactics to stop the run of play. The slight trip; The standing a yard in front of the ball preventing the quick free kick; Kicking the ball away to stop a quick attack. The only part that gets Ben a red was being the last man. otherwise it's no different. In fact, am I right in thinking that should only have been a yellow under new laws stating if the player is running away from goal it's not a definite red? That may only be in the penalty box?!
Why would you not praise him? He did what he had to do to keep us in the game. No attempt to con the ref, knew he'd get a red card
Definitely made the right call in the circumstances. We weren't going to win that game but we certainly looked like we could lose it and I'd rather play 15 mins with 10 men and give them a free-kick 30 yards out than let Shane Long through 1 on 1. Was it unsportsmanlike? Maybe....but he was punished as per the laws of the game so there's nothing to complain about (other than the fact he was put in that position in the first place). I don't see it as any different to holding the ball in the corner, deliberately preventing a free-kick being taken, etc. It's just tactics
A goal-scoring opportunity is still a straight red, it's only when it's in the box now it's a yellow (as it was deemed a penalty and a red card was too harsh)
According the FA's website Watson only has a 1 match ban http://www.thefa.com/football-rules-governance/suspensions
