    Ashikodi reveals England dream

Moses Ashikodi has vowed to follow his friends Micah Richards and Theo Walcott into the England squad after scoring on his debut for Watford.

The 19-year-old forward played with Walcott and Richards for England at youth levels, but has so far failed to make the strides they have managed following a troubled past which saw him thrown out of Millwall three years ago after he was alleged to have threatened then-Lions striker Mark McCammon with a knife.

But Ashikodi, who netted the final goal in yesterday's 4-1 win over Stockport in the FA Cup third round after moving to Vicarage Road from Rangers, is convinced he will fulfil his potential at Watford.

"I am playing catch-up with [Micah and Theo]," Ashikodi said. "The more goals I score, the quicker I will catch up with them.

"That is the aim. They are friends of mine, and I would like to play with them again - with England.

"I am very confident that I can catch up with my mates. I am ready."

Ashikodi's goal yesterday - an 82nd-minute effort after Stockport goalkeeper James Spencer had made a mess of a clearance - was his first in senior football.

It was also the 19-year-old's first start in the professional game as he had previously been restricted to a handful of substitute appearances with Millwall, Gillingham and Rangers.

The alleged knife incident at Millwall has cast a cloud over Ashikodi's career, but the Nigerian-born forward insists he has matured considerably since.

"I have grown up a lot," he admitted. "I am more relaxed, and not as bad as I was before.

"Back then, I was a big fish in the sea. Maybe I am not as good as I thought I was.

"I have to dig in and work harder. The manager (Adrian Boothroyd) has shown a lot of faith in me, and I have to repay that."

    8) he can do it if as he says works hard

Hardly an alleged knife incident, more like gospel.

Good to aim high, but like you say he needs to first of all cement his place in our side!

Reminds me alot of Ian Wright! Ambitious, talented, Quick, good eye for goal, poacher and good movement! Aswell as the personality to match! One to keep an eye on in next season or two!

I've got to say, I like this bloke!

I think he's going to do bloody well for us.

He's got that cocky swagger that winners have! I love him (in a non gay way!)!

Rangers fans are going to see him banging them in for us and wonder why the hell they let him go.

    Is he our Saviour

    He fits Aidys bill exactly!!!!

    "HE IS SOOOOOOOO HUNGRY"

I really think if we unleash this kid on The Premiership, he might just do some serious damage, and before you wags jump in, I don't mean with his knife :p

I think he can do well, but as always it is up to the player to take the chances given to him. Aidy is going to give him a chance to put his previous incidents behind him and have a crack at getting back towards being a good pro' and if he takes it then it will only be good for him and us.

When he was at Millwall a few years back he drew a knife on Mark McCammon in the canteen. I'm not talking plastic white one either ;)

    He got kicked out.

When you mentioned the small plastic knife I had visions of massive Danny Shittu doing that for a laugh! ;) ;D

Most of us have done something stupid at least once in our lives (me I've done loads of stupid things) But you should not have to keep paying for them your whole life, The boy did wrong and got thrown out of his club for it.
that is the past, he's a Hornet now and if he keeps playing football like he did on saturday and keep playing up to the fans he will soon achieve "fans favourite" status.

True, he made a mistake and has been given a new start by Aidy. If he continues to grasp it like he did on saturday, as I said earlier, both he and we will be fine.

i personally want him to start but i think aidy may play hendo and young.
with moses and hoskins on the bench
yes he did work very hard and cause a nuisnace which is why i hope he plays becuase i think he will create a space for young/his strike partner by dragging defenders away.

aidy didnt buy these players to warm the bench - one will start

Exactly. I think Young will move to right wing and Hoskins will partner Hendo or Priskin.
