Yep gotta watch that. My phone had a weather application which got updated every morning automatically. On my Tariff it's 30p for data per day so charges were racking up till I sussed out how to turn the auto update off.

With the more techy smart phones they assume your on a package which includes data and stuff like that.

Rang o2's cancelation service today and they told me that the current contract deal i'm on ends in about 2 months but the date where I can pick a phone to upgrade is in about 1 month. Told the chap on the phone that t-mobile were doing unlimited texts and 600 minutes for £15 a month, its a sim only deal and he knew that. He said the o2 deals change at the end of every month, so knowing that theres no way out of this current contract plus it expires soon, i'll be giving them a call with 30 days notice of cancelling and telling him the most decent deal around and if they can't match it and give me a blackberry or iPhone then it will be cheerio and hello T-Mobile.

Heard from a fair share of websites and friends who have told me about the haggling you can do with o2 so it'll be fun.

I'm sending my phone in tomorrow for repair, I've had enough of it turning itself off/restoring itself to factory settings then back to normal/cutting out in the middle of phonecalls. When it comes back they're going to give me a call back and ask how I'm getting on. Even if it's fine I'm half tempted to say I still want another phone.

My contract is up in a couple of months and all I want is a PHONE!!!

Most of you on here will know I am not all that computer literate so all the gadgetry you get on phones these days is not much use to me, I don't even do much texting!!!

So what is the best deal out there for a new phone (model suggestions appreciated) and a basic contract around 500+ minutes a month with as little text capacity as possible, as I believe it is virtually impossible to get a package without texts. Unless you know different of course?

Try billmonitor.com or http://www.moneysavingexpert.com (click on Utlitities/Phones). Both of these should find you the best deal for mobile phones.

TVoR, look at 02 Simplicity, it's sim only but you can either do a 12 month contract or a 30 day rolling which is rare nowadays, meaning of course you can cancel at any time with 30 days notice. They're cheap as chips too, I mean you don't get a handset but you can pick decent enough ones up for what you want for £80 or so.

I'm sure T-Mob do a similiar plan to 02's Simplicity also.

OK, so it's almost 2 years since I started this thread and guess what? It's renewal time.

Current status is I hate my phone. It's just plain sh*te, what was I thinking? OK, the TomTom on it is just fantastic, but that's it. Windows is out of the window for me from this point forward.

So I spoke to TMobile this morning who can lower my monthly tariff from £20 to £8.50, and will throw in a Samsung Galaxy Ace or HTC Wildfire for free, (with Android OS). However, I'm massively impressed with my colleagues IPhones, and am looking at this option now. For £15 a month you can get a free Iphone 3GS, but with limited text/call options. I'm thinking that when the TMobile guy rings back later I'll press him for a deal for an IPhone 3GS, unlimited text and internet, and try to keep it at about £15.

I'm conviced that a simple basic phone with bluetooth is all that is required.
Get a tablet for your web stuff.
Tom Tom is cheaper as a stand alone unit.

iphone wont be good for this site as it doesn't do flash.

It the games in the arcade and also the casino if/when that comes back. Do the adverts work OK also as I've had issue with them on non flash devices.
I know its not critical to running the site but thoroughly annoying.
    It'll also kill facebook aps.

Who needs the arcade when you have angry birds ? Yes, ads work well on the IPhone. If it kills facebook aps then I'm getting it tomorrow, (facebook recently banned from my house due to teenagers not realising the dangers it posed).

The new Blackberry bold/touch screen thingy is a superb phone. It urinates all over the I phone in my opinion. I phones are good fun for the apps etc. but as a phone they are terrible and a kilelr when trying to work from it. For the apps I am planning on getting an I pod touch, for a phone the Blackberry is at the top of the game.

Get an iPhone Admin. Got the new iPhone 4S a week and a bit ago and can't fault it at all. Simple and easy to use & has everything I need.

Personally, if I was going to get an iPhone, I wouldn't get anything earlier than the iPhone 4. It seems fast and sleek where the older ones seem a bit slow.

Been hearing a bit about the Samsung Galaxy S2, it won some award for phone of the year recently, beating the iPhone 4s. Android OS and I think it has better specs than the 4s. You'll probably get a cheaper deal with this phone rather than the top draw prices that iPhones carry. On Pay as you go, the S2 is around £300 new where the iPhone would be £500+

IPhone 3GS ordered. £15 a month including phone, unlimited texts, loads of internet download bandwidth and 50 minutes of calls, (don't care about calls). Arrives soon!!

Fair play. Obviously this advice is a little late for you, but for anyone else that's looking...

As someone who has been on Android for 3 years now, I will say that if you get the very best available handset it will probably blow most iPhones out of the water. However, there are some really low end phones around that ship with Android and really cause more hassle than they're worth.

Basically, if you go Android then make sure it's at the top of the market. Otherwise the iPhone 3GS and above will be far more suited to what you want, and probably cheaper.

Too late as well but the Galaxy sII is indeed superb. Best phone I have ever had, quality piece of kit.

What do you think of the screen size? Does it feel too big in your hand and pocket?

This is one of the only potential bothers that I need to try out first before I get rid of my boring BlackBerry for the S2.
