They are a modern american band its unlikely that they will be any good.

I'd hardly call them modern and they are different to the current wave of sh*t that is being churned out over there.

Not saying i'm a Linkin Park fan but i don't dislike them as much as the latest crop of American stuff.

    Where shall i start !

    Dashboard Confessional
    Yellowcard
Panic at the yr 5 disco
    Taking Back Sunday

That sort of stuff that all sounds the same.

Thankfully it hasn't forced decent american bands like The Strokes and Foo Fighters off the scene over here. Long may that continue.

i cant really name the bad american bands because i tend not to listen to them, but fall out boy and panic at the disco are examples.

failing that, try boston. by virtue of 'more than a feeling' they are the best american band ever!

Yup...This is crap that British record companies think you want to buy...don't blame America for that.

on another note, how popular is MC Lars in America. He came to my attention last year and i know quite a few people here who are fans, so my logic is that if he's big in manchester, he mus be big in the US?

  24. Fitz

    Depends on who you ask...
Compared with Britain, the US is so fractured geographically, linguistically, socially, culturally, educationally...you can't get 10 people to agree on one thing. This informs much of what is known, to say nothing of what is popular. To become known, you pretty much have to be assumed to be something a record company can make money on, otherwise...you are just an art project given minimal exposure.

MC Lars is in the art project range here. Virtually unknown, save by certain pioneering hunters, though interesting.

    Mind you I distinguish between known/unknown, & good/bad.

Anyway, nothing I like ever seems to be popular. Know these guys?

Nobody else does either... I'm shocked when I hear something I like on the airwaves, and then usually dislike it promptly as a result.

Trying to find something original is tough. It seems I can trace 20 different genres of rock to Abbey Road. Now THAT is making an impression. Most of what I hear as "new" is totally recycled from something that was "new" twenty or thirty years ago, which was actually ripped off from American Blacks of the 30's, 40's, and 50's. The world owes us a debt of gratitude for that...the recipe is tough though: kidnapping, forced labor, destitution and poverty, denial of basic human rights cook for 200 hundred years and PRESTO:

I agree with that, they are also quite big headed...

I personally can't wait for the new LP album, it's been a long enough bleedin' wait! I heard one of the album tracks the other night, I might have to camp outside HMV on the 13th...

I don't mind Linkin Park but I have always had a suspician that they are a manufactured band and isn't their singer called something like Chester Bennigton or something not very rock and roll! When they came out, they were classd in the same bracket as Kid Rock, they are certainly better than that!

On the issue of influences, I heard a bit of classical music the other day, Gustav Holst, The Planets, and you can clearly see how that has influenced modern comtempory music

They are reforming apparently. Ones of the first bands I listened to when I first got into music and always made brilliant videos as well
