A club that chose to ignore the need for a goalscorer (or as I've been saying - a fox in the box) for 3 years or more, including in a window where a signing might have prevented relegation and the loss of 100m, will not suddenly wake up now. Our club is run by a despotic cre tin who cares more about wheeling and dealing in loanees than in our success as a club. Gino will not act. He's too stubborn. He will flog the decaying flesh from the cadaver of the Deeney and Gray horse until it is powdered bone. If a free winger like Zinkerninkel becomes available, or a 19 year old who hasn't made the grade at a Prem Club, we will move, but learn from history. We don't make signings to improve weak areas of our team. That is not how we have done business and it is why we are in the situation we are in. It won't change under Gino's ownership.
Not according to the evidence, again, as I posted originally. But yes, I will freely admit that I was not with Munoz during the selection process. He doesn't like to be bothered when he's playing with the whiteboard.
Alexa, define 'Cloud Cuckoo Land'.... Xisco Munoz offered his congratulations to his Watford players for what he felt was ultimately a positive performance in their 0-0 draw with Millwall. The head coach felt his side controlled possession in difficult conditions and said that they showed progress despite the scoreline. "I think it was a very good performance," said Munoz. "Today we had good control of the ball, also we had in the first half a lot of chances to score, but it sometimes happens in football. I think it's a good direction for us. We need to continue to learn to control the game.
As others have said, he's just giddy to be here and because of the fact he's somehow in a job he should never, ever have even been thought of for.
I think it was Aristophanes in "Clouds". I don't blame Disco for what he's said. He's not likely to say "I've been saddled with an absolute nincompoop of a forward who has as much chance of scoring as a flea with his feet stuck in wax."
( Adopts Sybil voice) I know,I know, oohh I know. We don't know the stats do we? He may be feeling the strain and how would we have felt if he had turned an ankle on that excuse of a pitch? As I wrote earlier I think it was condition based but I did add enough is enough. He is a gormless twerp,no one can dispute that.
True, and he may have said something completely different to the players in private, we don't know, but coming out with stuff like this which is patently bollox makes him look like an massive idiot frankly.
I don't think there's too much wrong in what he said there. We did control the game and had a lot of chances in the first half. Had we a competent striker we win the game 2 or 3-0. He can do very little about that. All the coach can do it make us resolute, which we are, and to improve forward play, we I believe he's gradually doing. At half time I was pleased with the performance, but frustrated by the chances squandered. Second half it became a bit of a non event, although Millwall didn't trouble us. Results change people's mindset. I thought the first half was our best away performance of the season, the second half a bland copy of many of the away games. So we did fall away as an attacking threat, but that's purely down to personnel. He can do very little about it, unless the owner gives him a player who will trouble the opposition's defense.
I don't blame the guy for keeping it positive, Ivic slagged the players off after every game and they clearly reacted badly to it. Xisco seems to have got them onside and we're on a decent run so I can see why he's not criticising them. In public anyway.
I’d be more inclined to give him benefit of the doubt if he wasn’t a completely unqualified Pozzo puppet.
I'm inclined to agree. With this bunch of players, the slightest bit of criticism and Deeney may lead another player revolt.
Tom not happy with the performance or result . https://mobile.twitter.com/WD18Fans/status/1354209967881023490
Or maybe just someone who has a different opinion on our performance from some of you lot? There’s no right or wrong or objective science when it comes to assessing performances in sport, other than blatantly misguided assertions like saying Gray is as good as Aguero or “our performance in the FA Cup final was great, we just didn’t take our chances and Man City scored from six of theirs”. Glad to hear someone who views the game in a similarly positive light, but at the same time it’s funny how we saw it differently. I didn’t think the first half was particularly good, OK we were unlucky not to go ahead after the ball somehow stayed out after that goalmouth scramble with it hitting the post, but I can’t recall any chances other than that and equally we were lucky not to go into halftime behind after falling asleep towards the end and almost letting Millwall go undeservedly ahead. But after Pedro came on without creating any really clear-cut chances apart from the rebound from Chalobah’s long-range shot, we looked more consistently threatening throughout and the only team who was going to win the game. Admittedly Millwall’s negative tactics played a part in that - I can’t imagine either set of fans came away very happy from that, Millwall are lower mid table but they played like a team like Wycombe who’s just come up from League 1 and is happy with any point they can get.
Not a fan of wading in when there’s already a number debating this with you but did want to make a point on this. I’m not completely against the idea that Pedro is being rested / protected, but there is a problem with the solution being a striker who can’t score, can’t create, can’t control, can’t pass, can’t head, etc etc. Do I hope that if he plays again he starts doing those things? Absolutely, why wouldn’t any fan want that? But can you see it happening? Has he not had enough chances? So then what’s the alternatives? Things I’d rather see moving on, in no particular order are Using the U’23’s / U’18’s Sign / loan someone else Play someone from the main squad out of position Change the formation so we only need to play one out and out striker. I just can’t see the benefits in using Gray anymore. Apart from a couple of ‘runs’ he’s made in a couple of games, what has he done to deserve any more game time?
The dying minutes of this game really summed this team up. There was a complete lack of urgency. The ball aimlessly passed along the back 4 until, with snail-like progression, reaching the halfway line. Then the ball either passed back to start the process again, or aimlessly hoofed forward to be gobbled up by the Millwall centre backs. No full backs attempting to run down the flanks and getting crosses in, no centre midfield (Chalobah chief culprit here) picking the ball up and driving at the heart of the Millwall defence, trying to make something happen. Instead we got nothing. Nobody busting a gut trying to force the issue. In football parlance, they don't really seem to want it enough.
Worth bearing in mind as well that that was the fourth game in eleven days and we haven't really rotated much other than swapping Pedro and Gray around. Add to that playing on the most energy sapping surface of the season and that Millwall pretty much rested the whole team at the weekend so had a week's rest, and even then were incredibly negative in the second half with no intention of attacking and maybe that's not such a bad point after all. A shame as they were crap but circumstances didn't exactly favour us.
"My name is Gluttonous Cholestrius Maximus, captain of the Orns, General of the penalty spot, loyal servant to the true emperor, Gino Pozzo. And I will have my dinner, in this restaurant or the next"
True, then in that case why weren't more subs used to freshen things up and to try something different. Our current incumbent appears to posses the attributes of a one-trick pony.
Where's his sidekick, Pissius Poorous Horrenda Primum Tactum in his chariot laden with gold, laughing all the way to the bank.
Our temporary head cheerleader does seem to be a bit predictable in his post-match outpourings. It was a very good/amazing/unbelievable performance We played like animals/gladiators/fluffy kittens/unbelievable beings Andre Gray played well/was unlucky and I have full confidence in him I am very happy with the squad and expect no incomings this transfer window. I fully believe left is right and black and white is Gray, who was unbelievable. Will this do Senor Deeney, sir?
He could help by slicing the oranges up at half time, or put sugar in the half-time tea, but there again he'll probably miss.
He's too slow to lead it. He pushes players to down tools so they drop to his level of pace. Sannino, Mazzari, Flores, Pearson, Ivic.
Perica is injured. Youngsters maybe not up to it yet? Xisco's choice of strikers a bit limited at the moment. Noone is going to argue with the suggestion of getting another striker in.
A lot of negativity on here as per usual , but that was probably our best away performance of the season ( I know it’s a low bar). We created some decent chances and should have scored a few, compared to our usual 1 chance . Ok Millwall are probably *****, but so are 80% of the other teams we’ve played much worse against . They also have proved themselves difficult to beat at home this season . Whist we are hardly playing free flowing football our link up play around the opposition box has improved over the last few matches . I must admit though , having been in the ‘give Gray a chance I think he might score goals in the championship ‘ camp. But he’s literally missing everything he touches. By sheer chance you would have thought he mighgg tv out one in. However , I understand why he’s still being played. It’s deceiving as he continues to get in good positions and looks like he might score at some point . it still seems with our lack of consistent goal threat we will probably end up in the playoffs now . I’ve pretty much resigned myself to that .
