There seems to be a lot of spontaneous swearing going on on this thread now. Zaratte's syndrome?

Let me spell it out for you. We have a team of late 20s early 30s without much passion or pace. Players of that vintage who've been around a few clubs tend to be in their comfort zone and to have lost a bit of whatever pace they had. I must have seen Zarate on MOTD but he's made no impression on me. My sentence ended with a question mark, which is an indication that I was asking a question, albeit with a sceptical tone. So is he going to add pace or not, since you know so much about him?

And maybe you could PM me with your academic qualifications and career CV, so we can decide which of us is the thicker.

This was highlighted in dramatic fashion when Brandon Mason assumed the mantle of legend by breaking into a run and beating a player. Once.

Yep and he got dropped from the squad for that disgrace.

It's understandable to be overwhelmed by this signing when you take into consideration the players record in English football. Zarate was not a success at Birmingham, West Ham or QPR. However the reason for a player under performing are far more complex than the player simply lacking quality. Zarates time at Birmingham was spent playing for a struggling side who were regularly getting beat, this is hardly the ideal scenario for an attacking player to thrive. His time at QPR was spent during their dreadful run when none of their players including Zarate could not care less about the club. At West Ham he was regularly played out of position and whilst not setting the wold alight he certainly showed some quality moments.

It is well documented that Zarate has had a bad attitude in the past. However he certainly has all of the attributes of a good attacking player, he is quick, strong, skillful and has a fantastic strike and if he has sorted that attitude problem out now he has matured or Walter can sort him out then he may just do okay.

So you need to see someone play before you can express a view ? Once seen, is your view limited to that match are you able to comment on the players whole career ?

Players in the current squad in their late 20s/early 30s whose problem is not either passion or pace (particularly for the position they play in):

    Britos
    Kaboul
    Berhami
    Holebas
    Janmaat
    Guedioura
    Amrabat
    Zuniga

That our 3 fastest wide players are injured is actually the issue

If this is true it suggests that no other targets are available.

Surely a youth player or a young player would make more sense then another 30year old flop but I'm not going to say anything because he will probably score the winner against Bournemouth and I'll be the happiest like alive

Surely seeing him play is going to help. Would you suggest a club signs a player before actually seeing him or should they just go on what a journalist or a forum says.

Thanks, Luton . At last someone who can make a coherent case for signing him

Why does he have to be a flop ? We're crying out for creativity and he's a creative player, maybe at the detriment to other areas of his game but I'm not sure what people are expecting. He's talked about as a striker, but he's someone that players deeper and can also play wide.

I'm not directing this at you specifically but give the guy a chance, he hasn't even signed yet.

There is something quite amusing that with so many saying they feel detached from the players with so many mercenary, bad attitude journeymen and they seem to have found someone to sign who embodies all of this on paper.

If he signs though a fresh slate of course to see what he can do for us, like I said before though I hope it's a loan with option again as he sounds relatively high risk but if he can put the ball in the net even a handful of times and actually take a decent set piece then he improves the side for sure.

I can guarantee this won't work out if we sign him. Probably like Diamanti all over again.

    Forms not great but attitude??

If I told you he gets booked a lot, gives away silly free kicks and spent most of the second half arguing with Holebas after the rubbish pass back from a throw in would you call that a rubbish attitude.

Ighalo barely bothers to warm up if he's on the bench.

Yeah model pros both of them

Do any of the subs properly warm up? All I see are them huddling in a group chatting and occasionally doing the odd flick with the ball. Amazed in this day and age when they could be asked to come on in the first few moments which has been quite often recently

Signing Zarate smacks of when we signed Steve Kabba in a forlorn attempt to stave off relegation in the Hoofroyd era.

If you look at the official GT video today you'll see at about 1.45 Britos arguing as they came out to warm up. Yep that's a model pro there....

Peoples views on players are generally formulated on things that they seen and things that they have been told.
I for one have seen Zarate play a fair few times. I've seen him being exceptional and I've seen him being ineffective.

Players like Zarate will always divide opinion but it doesn't means that either side of the argument is definitively correct.
I like many other am happy to have my opinion challanged and even changed.

Zarate has technical abilility in abundance, he has at times lacked application & attitude.
Personally I have reservations over the players temperament.

It's clear that we need someone to fill the void left by Pereyra.
It also makes sense that we loan in the replacement as in theory we won't need him next season.

Zarate will add something - I just hope it's something positive.
Ultimately only the player himself can completely change my opinion - I'd welcome that.

  34. Relegation Certs

The way I look at it is we have nothing to lose by loaning this player and everything to gain. What's the worst that can happen? If he's **** we simply dont play him. So we will lose the wages and any loan fee, but who cares? We are rich as ****. Surely it's better to sign someone than no-one.

As you say, we need a replacement for pereyra and this guy sounds like he ticks a lot of boxes. If he starts behaving like a *****, we can send him back. Plus he's a sexy exotic foreigner rather than a dull plodding englishman.

    It's win win win!

  35. magic

The thing we have to lose is our opportunity at find a temporary replacement for Pereyra.
We send him back we're back to square one except the window will be shut!

Hence my reluctance to be overly convinced.
