Matthew Jarvis (born 22 May 1986, Middlesbrough) is a professional footballer. He currently plays for Gillingham, where he started his career, as a left winger who can also play on the right wing and up front. He is noted for his pace and creation of goal-scoring opportunities. His debut for Gillingham in 2002-2003 came in November 2003, with his first professional contract signed during the 2004-2005 season. His goal against Huddersfield Town won the club's goal of the season award for the 2005/06 season. For these reasons as well as his friendly personality he has become a crowd favourite. He has been playing regularly since returning from a hernia injury which he obtained on the 31 December 2005 during the Gills' 3-0 win over the MK Dons in the 2005-06 season, and was the club's second highest scorer in the 2005/2006 season with 7 goals. Jarvis' contract with Gillingham ends after the 2006/07 season and speculation has linked him with a move to Premiership clubs Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa. Talking to BBC Radio Kent Gillingham managaer Ronnie Jepson talked of his hopes that Jarvis would sign a new contract at Priestfield saying "As far as I'm concerned I'd like to see Matt here for a long long time. He's a credit to himself and his family in the way he conducts himself on and around the ground. He's the type of lad I want to keep, not to sell" [1].
the fact that Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa are interested makes him worth a further look at IMO
Jarvis would be a brilliant signing, we could do with another winger, and the fact he can play on the left or right is a bonus! If we do sign him, it may pave the way for Macca to move on though... Mirror says Burkinshaw saw him at the weekend, and Jarvis is available for 500K because he refuses to sign a new contract
£500k would be a steal. Young Hammer Macca Albert One would surely go. probably Macca or Albert, unless the coaches still believe they will make it..
I didn't write that the way I intended it. Four wingers plus another, so IMO one would be let go, and that would be either Albert or Macca.
Interesting, i believe he can also play upfront aswell! So maybe we're looking at him next summer on a freebie or a reduced fee in January? Gillingham would have to accept a low offer due to the fact he can walk out for nothing in the summer!
Some drivel for you. He's played most of his games this season from the wing. Chipped in with 5 goals (I know its League 1) and Gillingham have never lost when he's scored. (Won 4, Drew 1). He's also never booked/sent off this season. In fact in the 71 matches he's started in he's only ever been booked once. Last game of the season last season. If you've not heard of him you've probably seen him play. He played 90 mins vs us on the 2nd Nov 04 at Priestfield. Match finished 0-0.
