I was pondering exactly the same thing. I thought maybe it might be a pun on 'poon', but then I remembered that Poom's a guy and it's the official Watford site.
You are exercising way too much grey matter - its Poom 'Boom' Time. Yes they shouldn't give up the day job should they?
anyone got any songs?????? i got one doo doo doo doo doo POOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! saying poom in a loud deep voice
Gert Fharter of Koln FC. Andrex Softie of AFC Bogota Dai Rea of Newport County FC All rumoured to sign for us. we really will be a crap team
Gotta be pretty demoralising for Lee if Poom is coming in as no 1 though. If I was his agent I'd be looking for a move now.
Wenger has a policy of offering 1yr deals to those that are over 30 so i don't know where this fee has come from. Unless of course his contract started in say the January transfer window and was due to expire Jan 08.
Chewy, I was wondering the same thing. I surmised that there may be weeks or months still to run, so we may have spent a nominal amount to buy out the remaining weeks. It can't have been much higher than early 6 figures.
NEW Keeper Signed mart poom is a hornet. http://www.watfordfc.premiumtv.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10400~1028934,00.html
Greetings from Estonia.Forget Lee,now you have The Poominator http://www.aegmaha.com/?id=1535&otsing=mart poom
Hello Little H , Have you seen Poom play much and if so what are his strong and his weak points. Thanks, nak108
Hi, I'm from Estonia also. I can't forget the unforgettable Poominator which he scored for Sunderland against his old club Derby In Derby he's a legend and held in high esteem. Hopefully now that he'll get more play-time, he will get his form back and be the old good Poom again Although there's been a significant performance drop recently in the Estonian national team. Btw, he almost scored for Estonia recently, he came to the box during a corner and got his head to it but it went over the bar Talking about his qualities, then he's the "area dominator" type of goalkeeper. He's very confident at coming out to catch crosses. He also has pretty good reflexes but he can make some misjudgements in decisions (for example in running out at 1-on-1 situations). Otherwise he's very experienced and a quality quality keeper. You guys should be pleased... Estonians are, because now he's in a club where he can realistically hope for some playing-time (unlike in Arsenal).
I am quite happy with this signing, he is just the sort of keeper we need for the next couple of years, proven quality and plenty of experience. He's also much bigger than I thought, 6ft 4in according to the stats someone has posted. Aidy is quoted on the club site as saying he will have to compete with Lee for the No.1 shirt, so it looks like Richard has won Aidy over with his performances this year. Hopefully Mart will be able to help Alec bring on our other younger keepers and also hold the fort untill they are ready to step up to the 1st team themselves.
Tbh I think that's just Aidy being kind. He's hardly going to publically say "this means that Lee will only be playing for us if Poom gets injured and in Cup games".
Agreed - Lee needs to find another club because he's good enough to wear the no.1 but as long as Aidy is at Watford, it won't be here.
Yellow Yoda may have suggested the same thing but i couldn't be sure, the song that Spurs sing where they drum then shout y*ds but replace y*ds with POOM ! Failing anything creative.... POOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM !
Can't say the signing excites me at all. I had hoped for someone a bit younger but with the experience / pedigree. But then lets face it anyone would be better than having to witness coco flapping around like a sealion at Whipsnade during feeding time.
A little disapointed with this myself. I know he has vast premier experience but he has not played mush in the last few years and is getting on. What happens next year if we go up, or do the club hope Foster comes back to sign permanently after a year on the bench at united? If we were going to go for a reserve prem keeper, I would have gone for Stuart Taylor at Villa, not Poom. The two signings we have made have so far not offered me any clues that we are actually going to pay big fees for players which we must now surely do if we actually want to go back up again.
My reply to his age is.... David James is 2-3 years older than him, and he is still going strong. I feel this will be a great signing for us.
Loach cannot realistically play a part next season minus cup games v Acc. Stanley. To me, it seems Lee has won himself a shot at the number 1 jersey, and is against someone vastly experienced and according to estonians very good. Should be interesting. If Aidy didn't want Lee in the team, he would not have been given another contract and would have been sold last summer. I reckon.
Well I can't imagine we would have been able to get another better keeper instead of him who would have been happy to be second choice and spend most of the season on the bench. We had no reason to get rid.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lUTDz1UJUSE and we all wondered what Chewitt got upto othet than posting? poom poom poom let me hear you say WAYO! :cool1:
You have to look at his singing in a postive way, Poom's not young and not fostor but at least it will make Lee work hard for his spot and maybe he'll come around and step up.
also, people always complain about us signing too many players with potential, and yet when we sign someone who is at the stage in their career where they're at their peak (i'm aware of his age, but he is a goalie) we say we should be signing some sort of young buck! whats that all about?
To the "tune" of Boom bomm shake shake the room and only sung when he's just produced a big save AND we're not behind: "Poom Poom will seal your doom" repeated. Please forgive my first attempt at something sung by the masses. I have no idea if it'll sound good.
