Marlon King has been arrested after an alleged nightclub bust-up on New Year's Day, it has emerged. The Watford striker, out for the season with a knee injury, was held in London's Leicester Square at 12.50am on January 1 after an alleged brawl at the Penthouse club. King, 26, who went to prison for driving a stolen BMW, originally claimed he was homeless and refused to tell officers his identity, sources said. It is understood Watford learned of the incident only when contacted by Sportsmail. He was questioned on suspicion of assault and occasioning actual bodily harm. No details have been released of the alleged victim. King has been bailed to return to a police station in February. A Scotland Yard spokeswoman said: "A man in his twenties has been arrested on suspicion of assault and ABH." King injured a knee in the defeat by Arsenal in October after a superb start to the season. His absence has been cited as a key factor in Watford's struggles. He was sentenced to 18 months — reduced to five on appeal — in 2002 for driving the stolen BMW. In an interview with Sportsmail last year he said: "I got caught up in something and I didn't realise what was going on until it was too late. "I let myself down and I let my family down. But I feel like it has tarnished my name. "Footballers are presented as role models but they are also human beings and they make the same mistakes as everyone else."
I also found this up to date, never before seen story about King on the BBC... http://news.bbc.co.uk/onthisday/hi/dates/stories/august/16/newsid_2496000/2496375.stm
I can understand it being posted again as the original was moved and therefore not in sight by everyone. We have no problem with this being discussed, all we ask is to try and stay on topic. Most of you are aware of what a hot potato is! I'm not sure I'm happy with an injured player who should be recouperating being out, getting in trouble and possibly worsening the injury. Aidy will not be happy that's for sure. I'm also dissapointed with the way that sportsmail needed to dig up the past and pad the thread with 3/4 old news.
I've been wondering about this one. I mean, unless he's grown a wirey beard, had a old tweed jacket on and his trousers held up by string I'm not how he thought he'd get away with that one. I mean, I don't think many hobos wear Rolex watches ;D Plus with his prints on file for previous misdemeanors it was only a matter of time before they worked it out...
Will Marlon play for the hornets again? Aidy might take it easy for him because of the stress he is under in being long term injured, however discipline in a club is vital, particularly when new players are joining - yet another management challenge, at a time when Aidy needs all the time possible for more positive matters. His transfer value is limited at the moment but at the end of the season........ The only good thing is that this didn`t happen in Pall Mall (New Zealand house), although mind you Leicester Square is not that far away.
Back to the subject matter - i am not concerned - after all Aidy told us fans to beat up the green team, so maybe he instructed MK to whack anyone taking the pee out of our beloved WFC. His reply of being homeless suggests to me he was probably shyte faced. I wonder what he drinks. Marlon top scorer next season.
I suggested to the press office that rather than stick their heads in the sand they might wish to make a statement regarding Marlon. This is the responce from Iain Moody. "Regarding Marlon King, there is no question of bravery or otherwise. It would be plainly stupid to issue any comment at all without knowing the full facts – particularly considering that the whole thing may still be subject to going through the courts so we could risk prejudicing any case. Every decision of this nature is taken only after extensive legal advice."
I wonder how much the club will fork out for the "legal advice".. UEA will do it for a fraction of the price. No wonder they have to recharge for the Wigan match. Will MK reimburse the club from his wages or be fined the equivilent amount of costs?
someone said their friend saw him getting arrested, and it looks likely. IF he is charged (how many players are found guilty?) he wont exactly be banged up for life. dont believe any b***** the papers add to spice it up till you hear confirmation. i suggesst you remove that before the mods do by the way.
Not required. Perfectly fair comment. The knee would be getting better if he's had an operation and not been playing on it since September.
ok, i know it'd be getting better. its just thought he was implying that there was nothing wrong with his knee, which there was.
There was obviously a serious injury - but to be out late suggests its getting better. Its all a bit like life imitating art given the fuss which led to the fishal site closing
Ok if it is true which it appears to be, it seems like Marlon has been approached by some tool, who has insulted him personally as he is a face in the Premiership, Marlon took a swing and knocked the tool out. I just can't see Marlon walking into a club on New Years Eve giving it large. Maybe he smacked him in the mouth with his crutches.
I can just imagine Marlon in the middle of a fight saying.... "alrite everyone, mind the knee please as its meant to be a little sore still like!" Classic that he told the old bill he was homeless... maybe his wife/girlf had kicked him out for uncharacteristic misdemeanours? If that be the case then surely he was telling the truth? I say as a way of clearing up the facts once and for all we invite Marlon onto the pitch at the Vic and hold a Q and A session with the fans after a game. I'll start... What colour was the BM and were there any decent CD's already in the player? Did you really run out of towels in Jamaica? Which leg were you limping on last Tuesday? Did he hit you or did you get the first punch in? ;D Anyone else (before I get banned)
a woooosh back for you - did you not see the wink (and you cant whooosh me back, nothings going over my head)
