Gomes wasn't injured, he was part of the delegation in Spain on Saturday briefing the new Head Coach prior him taking over Monday morning

It was telling there was no thanking Silva for his services or wishing him well in the future in the official statement. Bad blood.

Silva's reputation will be in tatters if we do well until the end of the season. Two reasons to get behind the team.

So if he's paid to promote the watch surely getting sacked means he's on borrowed time for that gig too?

  13. Who have we 'tinned'? Gino has been loyal to the contract of all our coaches, acting as agreed by both parties in each case, until Silva. We didn't have to continue under Quique and Wally's ***** to the end of the season, but Gino is nothing if not loyal to the contract, unless some snake really pees him off.

Joka: Shame, but, his contract ended. Gino had no obligation to sign him on a new one.
QSF: Went after an end of season contract review agreed to by both parties allowing the contract to be ended if either party decided they wished not to continue with it. If Quique didn't want that clause (and he said at the time he had insisted on it) then he shouldn't have signed the contract.
Wally: see QSF break clause above.

Officially and technically, we haven't sacked a single manager until now. Not even Billy McKinley, who got paid off even though he didn't even have a contract.

I'm surprised he didn't say something along the lines of:

"Watford have just sacked their manager which means they are now managerless."

Getting them into the Holebas Spring Collection would be a great start, imho.

Btw, I've missed the fun on this biggest WFC news day for ages.

Had just boarded the flight to NYC & settling in when the chap behind started reading out the official WFC press release.

    Surreal.

He wasn't a Hornet but it was like some public service announcement, slightly reminiscent of when Diana died.

A snatched 5 mins on the forum was all I could squeeze in before take off.

Martin Samuel and The Daily Mail, a match truly made in heaven. I think I can guess the tone of his article, unpteen managers in four years, 10th in table, madness, loans, everything wrong with modern football.

He probably made a few changes to a previous article between lunch courses and sent it in, money for old rope for that particular hack.

Actually was impressed by Motson’s Watford knowledge . He was very sympathetic and knowledgable about the Pozzos and basically the opinion was that Silva is a c**t !

Just the highly paid pundits in World Soccer, courtesy of the BBC, who can’t be bothered to see the real story .

I guess they are too busy to research the truth behind any football story .

So on the whole the pundits and media seem to understand Watford's decision. It's just old jug ears and Fat Martin Samuel who are siding with Silva

Martin Samuel has a real pathological hatred of Watford hasn't he? I don't get what we have done is any worse than what Stoke , WBA or Swansea done? and by the way Swansea appointed a failed championship manager and are on their 9th manager since 2012 Stoke took ages and appointed Paul Lambert, WBA Alan sodding Pardew and Samuel's beloved West Spam went for the last chance saloon man David Moyes after how many games into the season?

  31. Sorry all, but he has got it absolutely correct, barring his failure to mention that Silva breached the contract he willingly signed.

We are a stepping stone. We know it and we are prepared for it. We embrace it.

He could almost be quoting from Duxbury's interview earlier this season. It will have been a major selling point to Silva, just with a first season exclusivity clause.

We expect no more loyalty from a coach than we offer them ourselves. We give them break clauses that say they can leave at the end of the season if they wish to, as Gino has no wish to keep a coach or player that seriously does not want to be here; though he does expect them to be professional enough to remain motivated during their stay. The fact is, in the last few years, we have exercised that clause more than the coach has, because it has suited us to do so.

We are entirely loyal to them, standing by them until the contract they signed permits us to part ways in a mutually agreed (contractually) manner.

So Samuels has got it right, but he has mistaken sound contractual construction with disloyalty, whilst interpreting a fundamental breach of contract as a reasonable act of ambition.

All of our coaches have known exactly what they were entering into. None of them have been treated in any manner other than they should have expected given the contract they signed. Including Silva, who should have known that his ego was forcing him into a breach of contract.

Screenshot-2018-1-21 Let's hope Watford's hapless owners get what they deserve.png

Samuel has hated Watford for ages, no idea why. Perhaps they banned him from the new restaurants the Pozzo's had built at the ground? There's plenty of other clubs he can't stand - and I'm sure the feeling's always mutual.
