Marco Silva - Manager

For me, the real story with this whole Silva/Watford/Parish/Palace issue is.....Steve Parish, your club is without a manager, it is surely your main source of income, and the manager merry-go-round was in full effect - why on earth were you on holiday?!

I interpret it as condescension from both the Mail and Parish. The story from the Mail - whilst poking fun at Palace by stating that they missed out on their number one target because the chairman was on holiday - is still insinuating that Silva preferred them over us, only they were too slow in contacting him so he eventually "settled" for Watford instead. The response from Parrish - I agree with Markoa$, he's just saving face and trying to make out that Silva wasn't their first choice at all. His line "...agent begged me to see him" - yeah I reckon that's true, perhaps he was bored whilst Silva was talking with Porto so thought he'd phone Parrish up for a chat. It speaks volumes that they still haven't appointed anybody - it's a grotty little hole in a crap part of London with a stadium on par with the kennel.

If you click on the above twitter link and read what the rest of the Palace morons are now saying, it's clear that the recent past is being hurriedly rewritten to the tune of them never having been interested in Silva, and that Frank de Boer has always been their man. No doubt whoever they eventually appoint will have always been who they were after, and that this person is far superior to an over-rated, inexperienced Portuguese coach who took Hull down.

    I enjoyed his birthday message.

    'Hello, I'm Marco Silva'.

    Love the guy already.

That definitely looked like a hostage video. Also, his English seemed more stilted than his recent interview. I'm now worried that he's having the same lessons as Mazzarri and will regress to the point of needing a translator come the start of the season.

Amazing stats looking at that - 4 other prem teams with a manager in charge for less than a year, and 7 with less than two years. Apart from Wenger, the rest between 3+4 years. Yet we get more stick than anyone??

Yeah... a year in charge is not so much short of average these days. That's especially true if all four divisions are taken into account because (oddly) Prem managers stay in the job on average slightly longer than the other divisions.
Those half way up that list have been in charge less than a year and a half and just over 2 years will secure a place in the top twenty.
    Alarming.

Was going to say exactly the same. His English appears to be Quique level of dross rather than Wally's non-existent level. It's an improvement but negligible.

Have we actually heard anything from our new head coach yet other than Portuglish basics about hello and thanks for birthday good wishes? Does the bloke have any thoughts or tactical philosophy to share with us yet?

Should we expect that? I trust he's having exactly those discussions with the squad and we'll get to see the results of those discussions in exactly four weeks time.

He's gonna last the one season. Was not under pressure last season at Hull and realistically failed miserably. Away at Palace when three suddenly was a lot at stake he appeared 'visually not that bothered 'and showed little emotion' in a must win game. Seems to believe in his own press. I think people are going to turn against him by November at the latest.

If Marvin Silva doesn't quote Hansard in his first press conference, he's dead to me.

Well after the apparent debacle that was Wally, and his complete inability to communicate with the fans, I expected the club to be going all out on Marco to show the positives of his appointment. Yet his spoken English seems only slightly better in the short videos they've put out and we've heard diddly squat from him other than the obligatory generic quotes when he signed on in May.

So much positivity around the club right now, I feel sorry for you that you can't enjoy it. Strange bloke.

What causes you to think I'm not enjoying it? You should probably ask the same of Silva though as he looks thoroughly miserable in most club media put out so far.

I'm just pointing out Silva has said nothing of substance yet and that fact surprises me. Particularly after all the flak Wally took on the same issue.

Almost as if he has come through the back door - I remember at Hull he was pretty quiet.

Mind if the press seemed happened with the bloke having been told he didn't speak any English at all.

I'd be disappointed if he wasn't a bit more openly communicative once the season has started. At the moment I'm not. At the moment, I'm hoping he's concentrating on 'letting the football do the talking'.

You need to be able to write the queens english properly before discussing whether someone can speak it, I don't know what you are saying?

I think early pre-season you only tend to hear stuff or have press conferences directly from managers of the top sides. Not only is it early doors, so not much to say, but commercial commitments around sponsors and overseas tours take precedience. Think of how Chelsea announced Rudigier linked directly to children buying shirts. It is more important at the moment for Silva to assess and train the squad at the moment. Don't think this guy is a s b.llsh.t.r or just likes the sound of his voice when interacting with the media. I know we have been deprived of many soundbites and managerial insights over the last year but too early to judge Silva on this one. COYHS

I'm surprised that you're finding faults here. He's only been in the job for a couple of weeks. It's only pre-season. The general media is not in full swing yet, so it's only local press and Watford's own public relations office that will go to him for quotes.

He's already done one full interview, and he's clearly very understandable. He's much better at speaking English than Mazzarri.

If he's not being interviewed, that's hardly his fault. Once the club go to Austria, I'm sure they will do a piece with him then, plus the usual press interviews in the build up to the Liverpool game.

Yes it's a bit different now to when I started supporting the team the only way to knowing what was happening was to buy the Watford Observer on a Friday morning, now whatever is or isn't happening is in the media five minutes (I mean one minute) later!

Having watched a youtube vid or two of Silvas interviews when he was at Hull he comes across very well. Well spoken and appears to be fluent in English.
