Good work to get Silva in quickly - let's hope he earns the trust of the players and is able to turn us into a well discliplined fit team..

    That would be a start!

Lots of reports saying that he did hold talks with Palace, Porto and Southampton as well (even though they haven't sacked their manager yet). The fact that he chose us over them, speaks huge volumes in my opinion. I can actually see Gino giving him a big backing financially and wouldn't be surprised to see us spend upwards of £60mil this summer.

Silva is obviously excited about something in order to come here and he has been convinced by our exec team with whatever they have told him.

Okay, look. You took exception to something I have said on another thread and replied so I feel obliged to comment....I have no desire to start a petty debate so should add now that I back Silva. I just didn't see the fuss that some people are seeing...but that's okay, it' s all about opinions. And anything is better than the past 6 - 8 months we've had served up. BUT. Do you not see the double standards of the bit highlighted in bold? Its a moot point now but Monk did well at Swansea in the PL and was unfairly sacked but you focus on the job he did at Leeds, which could be also be argued was good given their squad and boardroom strife. You then focus on Silva's age....Monk is 38.

I can't speak for others but I didn't say what I said 'just to be different' as you seem to suggest that I, and maybe others, did. Silva's record is good and there is undoubted potential - but for me, and I respect its just my opinion, I'm yet to buy into the hype. Thats not to say that I won't.

But your post just comes across petty and like other peoples opinions don't count if they don't match yours.

    Guessing Oscar Garcia?

As for this appointment, cautiously optimistic because every appointment carries a degree of risk. Ticks some of the boxes i.e. young, enthusiastic, past experience in the league

To be honest, I wasn't even reading who was posting the pro-Monk messages, I just saw a few of them, I didn't even know you were a poster on here till now.

I just found most the reasons for being against the Silva appointment a bit rubbish. He could be a flop but I've yet to see a convincing argument as to why. If it's just a gut feeling then that's cool sometimes you just have a feeling but yeah let's just get behind the man before we start posting flaws so we can say "I told you so" if it does go **** up.

    COYH!

That's cool. You definitely quoted my response in a Monk/Silva/Next Manager thread so therefore felt it was directly aimed at me, even if you claim that you didn't know I posted on here. But we've both made our points clear and neither of us is actually against the Silva appointment so thats the main thing and it's actually nice to have a discussion where it doesn't descend into a farcical argument about relegation/probability/Mazzarri etc etc. Now he's confirmed, I'm firmly behind Silva.

Very happy with this appointment. Ticks all the boxes made even better by Palace fans being pissed off with the prospect of Monk joining them and even Mazzarri mentioned as a contender in the Croydon Advertiser

Looking forward with optimism to next season now

OR. You could read the straightforward replies me and the fellow poster have made since this was said? I've said I'm behind Silva but not to the level of some people. That's allowed, it's my view and it's hardly a display of opposition to his appointment. Or maybe you'd rather just getting into a slanging match about nothing that you seem to do with other people on this forum?

    GoingDown "The Stability"

Unfairly sacked at Swansea? They'd won 1 in 11 and were heading down.

As I've said on other threads, the hype about Monk is very odd. I guess there aren't a lot of English coaches about so they go nuts about the average ones. Just like the majority of the England squad.

Congratulations Silva and welcome to Hertfordshire's biggest and best family club! We hope you enjoy your tenure here. Thank you..

Oh and the last ex manager to beat us was Sean Dyche. Lost 2-0 at Burnley.

Bournemouth fans seem to think we're doomed once Deeney goes and will be the next Pompey/Coventry!

Didn't realise we had massive debts and weren't owners of our own ground...

Yes we might have a tricky season and even get relegated at some point but pretty sure the Pozzos will have us in safe hands.

None of the young English managers are any good. Monk was hailed as the next big thing then following season got sacked.
The Bournemouth fella is on a cooshy number just watch him fail when he moves to somewhere when a lot is expected.

No I meant had beaten us before we appointed him. Garcia didn't. We won and drew against Brighton that season.

“The Ambition This Club Has Is Really Important"

He was one of the Premier League’s most sought after Head Coaches, but Marco Silva claims the club’s ambition made Watford the stand-out option.

Asked what attracted him to sign a two-year deal with the Hornets, Silva told watfordfc.com: “Firstly I really like the approach of the board and the owner.

“They showed me the project and I like the ambition.

“The club want to improve for the next seasons and this is what I try to fight for in my career as well – to always improve, to do a good job and to ensure a good connection between the manager and the club.

“The ambition this club has is really important to me.”

He added: “I’m excited. It’s a good challenge and I’m really happy.”

With Watford set to embark on a third consecutive season in the Premier League, Silva is keen to oversee further progress at Vicarage Road and to deliver attractive football for the club’s supporters.

“It’s important to us that everybody knows what our goal is,” said the former Hull, Olympiacos and Sporting boss.

“The club is moving forward as a Premier League club but we always want to improve our position in the table and that’s important for next season.

“We want to play good football so that our fans feel well when they come to see our team play.

“We’ll work hard every day to prepare for the matches and to do our best in every game.”

The hard work starts now for Silva, who is keen to ensure the Hornets prepare in the best way possible for the forthcoming 2017/18 campaign.

“First of all I’m excited to be here, to start to work and to prepare for the next season,” said the 39-year-old.

“We will work hard to start well in the Premier League. Everybody knows it’s a hard competition but we come with confidence to improve every day and this is most important for me.

“This confidence I will pass to our players and to our fans as well.”

Probably setting myself up for a huge amount of abuse right now but I actually think we are going to see Amrabat improve a lot under Silva. I know people will say "well he couldn't get any worse" and all that, but I generally think he could be a bit of a surprise package to us next season with Silva coaching him.

He's 30, he's had 18 months in this league under two different managers and coaching teams and he hasn't improved at all. Physically he's now going to be exiting his prime and it's incredibly unlikely that he's going to improve on a technical level at this stage of his career.

Not good enough, never has been, never will be and needs to be moved on.

It's easy to say that when he has been played out of position and never been told to go an attack. Both managers have always wanted him to defend more than go forward. With Silva it will be different.

I just wouldn't be surprised to see him get a few more assists and chip in with some goals this season. He has the ability but he has never been allowed to use it. Personally I would give him until January and if nothing has changed, get rid. I just wouldn't sell him this summer because I think he will surprise a lot of us under Silva.
