Dowling said apparently squad harmony was really good under Quique and even those not involved seemed to be in good spirits. Or words to that effect.

I thought his agreeing that sacking Quique was a mistake in hindsight was brave. In a newspaper a couple of days ago he also seemed to confirm the Chalobah fee (officially undisclosed) was £5m. I'm surprised he's talking quite so openly about Watford and our business given he's only just left.

 

Someone mentioned recently that the Chalobah fee was a break clause based on his lack of starts for the Chelski first team last season. As in, if you don't play me, I can go for peanuts.

Yup. Allegedly didn't turn up to a team meeting on Christmas Day for the Chelsea game on Boxing Day, so he could spend time with his family instead or something?

 

I suppose it could be seen as brave, in the sense that he looked Gino in the eye and said "I am not the right person to do this job."

Having the courage of your convictions is a genuinely excellent trait. However, if your convictions are at odds with 1, the overall goal of the system, and; 2, the values of the system in achieving it, then they are also going to be at odds with getting your contract renewed.

I am sure there is much that is admirable about Luke, but I am equally sure that if he was the right man for the club, he would still be at the club.

I listened also, and was very surprised that this was Dowling's opinion. I have always, and will continue to maintain that Quique had to go. Was the only move. Unfortunately we replaced him with an even bigger clown.

 

I'd like working for my boss if he let me take it easy for the last 90 minutes each day.

 

I see he's going to Forest as their director of football. Makes sense why Watson and Pantilimon have suddenly gone there. Dowling's using his insider knowledge.
