Fabianski should have a nice strong back after Swanseas season which will prepare him for a season of bending over to pick the ball out of the Watford net

Maybe we are going to stick with Gomes, Dahlberg and Bachmann this coming season. Thought Fabianski would have been our main target as his stats with Swansea last season are good and he is affordable. Are we really in for Rico? He would be much more expensive and does he want to leave Sevilla? The only other link is an old tenuous one and somebody the Pozzos declined to sign several years ago - Tom Heaton.

Still think we'll end up with Meret. If Roma want him, we should want him.

Could we tempt the Monkey Hangers to part with Scott Loach. Could be pricey, but has potential.

Didn’t want him and anything I previously wrote to the contrary is fake news.

I know GK’s play on well into their 30’s but £7m for a 33yr old is a bit steep. And is so much better than what we have? Not convinced.

He would have been a definite upgrade. £7m is a bit too much but he is better than what we have now.

His stats for Swansea and particularly last season are great so have to agree PJs. GKs are pretty expensive now. Hopefully we are still in for a quality first choice keeper. Wolves look to have got the bargain of the century if they can avoid being sued by Sporting Lisbon.

Whilst it’s fair the say he had a good season, stats for GK’s don’t necessarily back up the assumption that one with good stats is better than one with average ones - purely because of Swansea’s league position, Fabianski will have had more action that any of the keepers at the top end of the league. So his stats will look good. I’d say he’s on a par with Gomes in terms of ability but perhaps with less mistakes. Would I pay £7m for a 33yr old to get rid of those mistakes? No. I think there’s probably better value out there. And WHU will no doubt be throwing money at him in his contract because that’s the only way they know.

  15. This is genuinely funny. My parrot just died laughing.

Edit: update - three members of my family have now been hospitalised with guffaw related injuries.

What's funny ? He's right. Do you think we will sign better ? Good keeper, with prem experience, who has improved with age and has plenty of years left at this level, for a sub £10m fee. You think the Sevilla reserve keeper Rico or the young Benfica keeper not liked by his own fans will be any better ?

  17. I'm sorry. Are you trying to start another funny thread? What with this random comment and all.

No probs if you disagree, but would consider it a coutesy if you would actually bother to RTFT, particularly the post I responded to, before critiquing my post.

RTFT. It makes sense. And then so can you.

Rico is hardly a ‘reserve’. He got dropped for 5 games and played in 40 games last season for a Sevilla team which competed at the top end of La Liga and in the CL. So yes, I think it would be perfectly understandable if people thought he’d be better than an ageing GK who has just be relegated and has 2, maybe 3 years left at this level. I’m not downplaying Fabianski as he’s had a good season. But I do think there are better options potentially available. Or a similar one already at the club who would have saved us £7m.

Sorry but you've completely lost me. I "RTFT" and the one you were responding to. What do you think is so funny ? Have I misunderstood you ? It's a matter of opinion but I think £7m for Fab would have been a fab bit of business for a good keeper who won their PoS last season.

Let's see who we sign and whether he has as good a season this season as Fab. "2 years maybe 3" ....He's 33 and we know keepers can go on well past 35.

There may be better options but we better hurry up! 7 million is chicken feed for a goalie nowadays and both Wolves and Wet Spam have upgraded significantly in this area. The Uruguay GK is unlikely to join us, the Benfica boy could be flaky and Rico would be a lot more expensive. We are risking missing out here.

Equally, Rui Patricio might be a fake and Fabianski might get injured. We might have dodged a bullet.

  23. 1. He's bang ordinary. Decent, yes. But ordinary.
    2. The amusing bit: he ain't better than what we've already got. Not by a country mile, in the honest opinion of myself, my dead parrot, and three members of my family recovering in hospital.

£7m is a fair price for an ordinary GK.

Fabs is a decent, ordinary Premier League GK, and we will not suffer between the pegs because he's gone elsewhere.

OK. Ordinary but their PoS in admittedly poor squad. Lets see if we end up with a better keeper though I accept that once WHU started bidding there was no chance we would sign him anyway. I'd be concerned if we start next season with Gomes who will be 38 in Feb and Dahlberg, the promising but 6th best Swedish keeper (not in WC squad or either of the 2 named back ups).
