The Strokes have a new album out it’s pretty good after one listen, which tells me I’ll love it in five listens time.

 

This has been going round and around my head for the last week or so.

 

Listened yesterday, thought it was awful. Slow and whiny. Really liked the recent single, but it was just turgid crap. I'll give it another go, but it was disappointing on first listen.

As a side note, I've just looked and it is 17 years since I saw them at Alexandra Palace. Another unwanted reminder of how time has flown.

 

That’s a shame! I’ve enjoyed the path they’ve taken personally, with the the exception of the third album I’ve found a lot to like in most of what they’ve done. I thought the solo stuff Albert Hammond and Julian Casablancas was decent too.

Is this it? And Room on Fire remain two of the best indie/pop rock albums ever made. I’d loved to have seen them around 2001 when they were really **** hot but I was only 10! Still haven’t seen them live....
