Unsettled Watford striker, Darius Henderson is a target for League 1 side Leeds United.

Leeds are all but clear to enter the transfer market again and manager Denis Wise has been given the go ahead to splash the cash. I'm sure Mr Boo the DJ is happy since he got 1p in the pound for the money the Yorkshire club owed him, but hey this business is about looking after number 1 not some little guy struggling to survive. Anyway, Darius Henderson is the top target for Leeds, with many players expected to leave Leeds as soon as the embargo is lifted, they club will want to move quickly to replace them.

Darius didn't enjoy a great season in the Prem, bagging just 3 goals and is thought to be available for around £500,000. With Watford being linked with every striker that moves, Henderson has become increasingly unsettled. He also faces an uphill task to win over a good majority of Watford fans.

The major stumbling block is obviously whether Darius fancies a move to League One and will be looking at other options, especially if West Brom up their interest.
Sources close to the club have said that Wise has made an initial enquiry and now Watford are waiting for the opening bid to hit their desk.

can't see it to be honest. I reckon he'll stay plus he is a proven championship scorer so I doubt he'd go to league 1.

Why on earth would we let Darius go????
Hes proven at this level and he always gives 110%
    Most commited player since Mooney...
Id love Earnshaw to come but if we dont get another striker im more than happy with what we have.
We might have a few quid to spend but we must make sure we dont waste it , and im sure Aidy wount..

King , Henderson , Priskin , Hoskins and I think we need to give Kabba a fair run first...

I also like hendo and think hes quite commited, not quite mooney/robbo/HH status but still like im. Hes already proven himself in the championship so think we should definately keep him for next year.

I think Hendo showed alot of character last season and unless a very decent offer came in I would not consider letting him go.

IMHO Darious should stay at least until January.

I do not see him as a 1st choice starter this season, however Marlon and him are a proven pairing at CCC level. Therefore we should keep him as backup should Aidys expected new strike partner for Marlon not work out, who ever he may be?

If by January Darious is not getting a look in and we get a decent offer for him, that would be the time to let him go!!!

We won't let Darius go without knowing if Priskin is up for the job.

Surely its time to sell Kabba first?

I presume you use the term "sell" very loosely. The reason we won't SELL Kabba is coz no-one will BUY him.

Maybe I'm missing something with Doris, but to me he has never looked committed. He jumps early for headers, his flick-ons are reprehensible, he is a malodorous presence in front of goal and he barely breaks into a jog during games. I will concede that as a 4th choice, squad striker, he is okay, but if someone offered money for him, then I wouldn't be at all concerned to see him go, especially as we have H coming back anyways.

Join the club who rejected him as a kid...doubt it and why would Darius want to step down a level?

Forgotten the Championship promotion season already because he created a good partnership with King and scored a fair share of goals...

Like to know what you think of Kabba and Priskin in terms of effort and commitment then!

  23. wfcmoog

    wfcmoog Tinpot

I've never said I think either of those players has shown the neccessary desire either, hence I have been praying for a striker signing this summer, to fill the gaping hole in our attack. Priskin has obvious talent, but the way he lopes about the pitch as though he is a superstar with nothing to prove makes me want to pack his boots with gunpowder and light a match under him.

I think a myth has sprung up about Darius, that he is a player who makes up for his lack of talent with his effort. I just think that he is both lacking in talent and lazy.

Perhaps. Although if I was told by the manager that he is looking for a new strike partner for Marlon and that Darius' chances will be limited next season. Plus on the off chance we get promoted again he wouldn't be in the managers plans at all, I would be a little unsettled.

It would be a mistake to sell until we have a replacement. Xmas transfer window maybe?

Doris gave us some great service but for some reason was not firing on all cylinders last season. Yes he would probably go if when we get promoted again but he certainly has a job to do with us at the moment.

Nobody did anything remotely good at all last season with the exceptions of foster who has left and I didn't like anyway, Boozer who was a surprise package and Stewart who improved to an unbelievable degree.

Hendo did no better or worse than 90% of the team, and as for being committed, he was one of the very few people who kept running and attempted to chase down balls even when we were 2 down with 5 minutes to go.

Shame on all of you boo boys for forgetting his 15 goals which got us promoted.

  33. PotGuy

    PotGuy Forum Fetishist

Yes but in that case neither are 70% of our team.

We are not back up yet, and there is not point planning for the future in the big leagues if we do not have the people that can get us there in the present.

Hendo can and will score many goals for us next season, and while he isn't Premiership quality, he is one of the best in the CCC, and that not expendable IMO.

Players I reckon could just about cut it at Prem level are: King, Boozer, Demerit possibly, and maybe Smith.

That leaves another 7 positions which do not have the fabled Premiership quality players we keep pining for.

We need to stick with those who can fire us back up regardless of whether they can then carry on improving for the Premiership.

Agreed, we do need some kind of Premiership quality in the side, but we can't go chucking away very good CCC players to try and risk it with new signings.

Plenty of teams have come down with squads brimming with so-called "Premiership quality players" and have been mediocre. It takes a certain type of player to get you out of the Championship. He might not even be Premiership quality and it's totally illogical but Hendo is crucial for us this coming season, I'm sure of it.

  35. Aberystwyth_Hornet

I can't see him going to Leeds of all teams, think this story is a no starter and a case of the press just linking names and clubs because of past-history.
Henderson is a Championship striker, not a great one, but a solid one. He thrives in a physical game but in the Premiership where players go down so easily he couldn't adapt. But maybe could in the future? He doesn't have great technical ability like Marlon, so his failings were as much to do with our style of play and lack of a good/established strike partner once Marlon was injured. IF he'd scored against Man U i bet his season would have been slightly different.

I'd only sell Henderson if we signed a player with a similar style of play and slighly better technical ability e.g Helguson (though it seems even he has failed to adapt to the Premiership).
