Did Ucko say they do? His quote specifically says "This season is a blank slate with the new manager and a bit of positivity will go a long way" Also said "the board need to improve and get signings right, but let’s give them a chance to actually do so" I think that sounds pretty fair?
In total fairness, it depends what kind of positivity he means. If he means positivity in the dressing room and amongst players and staff imparted by the incoming Edwards regime, then yes, sorely needed and previously enormously lacking (something we're all acutely aware of, of course). If it's more moonman fantasy appeal to the fans manifestation bollox, then no, not in the slightest.
I don’t think the board deserve a chance. We know how they behave. We are stuck with them but I’m not endlessly giving these people chances to learn lessons and reform. I look on them with disdain and will do so until they prove themselves with their actions. Doesn’t mean I can’t support the team on the pitch.
I dunno, I think positivity from Edwards, the players, and the fans can all have an impact. Especially in a season chasing promotion.
Fair enough. You didn't actually reference that part of the tweet in your original post, though. You only mentioned the clean slate and positivity, which seems to be in reference to the manager. If you're willing to be swayed in your opinion if they prove themselves with actions, is that not you giving them, at least, a very small chance?
I live in the West Midlands and was talking about the potential signing at football training recently and one of the lads from Smethwick/West Birmingham way who supports West Brom said he knew Wilson through friends and mentioned he was a boyhood Baggie and had been with them since he was six years old.
In a long list of classics, that line is one of my all-time favorites. Masterful. HOF material, right alongside the robot horses.
Suppose so but right now I’d love them gone tomorrow. My expectation of them changing my opinion is very low, I like the appointment of Edwards but I think he will just run into the same cultural and organisational problems as all the others.
Isn’t the all time great one “get behind the club you purport to support”? With correct cadence this one is really powerful.
Come on Smudger. I appreciate you don’t like the owners but is this going to be the reaction to every player we don’t sign. Maybe the manager said he wouldn’t be good enough, maybe we were never interested, maybe he wanted to stay in the area he’s currently living in. You can’t surely be upset we haven’t signed a player who’s had one good season at League 2?
Well according to some on Twitter he wanted to stay in the South West but who knows how true that is. As I say doubt Edwards will have much of a say on who comes in as don't think any manager under the Pozzos have? And he cannot really lay out a long term vision or plan as potentially the bloke won't be here by Christmas. Edwards has even been quoted as saying everyone get a clean slate which suggests there won't be whole sale changes.
I am upset. Several top youngsters have come out of that division. Played at another club and excelled and moved on even higher up. We appear to have no intention whatsoever despite the lessons being learnt of actually utilizing the pyramid. Edwards would know him well and he would be a presence for him in the dressing room. We missed out on Olise, Ramsay and we keep doing this. Seems more important to sign over the hill has beens. We had an ageing squad under Gracia. It was a clear time to renew slowly but surely but no. We kept old players in their comfort zones with long contracts. No wonder we fade so badly at the end of matches. I see no sign of the two twits changing tack at all. Time to wind the club up.
Positivity is one thing. But if you have substandard players who do not have the right mentality, physical conditioning no amount of it is going to affect results.
The major point you make though is about Edwards. Is it possible that Edwards said he’s not ready for this level? If he is so good why Bristol City? There are many other reasons aside from Pozzo or Duxbury
I'd think the major reason is the dead hands of Pozzo and Fuxbury. They'll carry on as before making what they think are great decisions when they are not. Just looking at their recent player recruitment with zero managerial input. It's been appalling.
Final decision comes down to them, that’s true but the only reason we were even vaguely linked with him is because of Edwards. Nobody had heard of him 6 weeks ago but you would think we just turned down Cafu in his prime judging from the reaction
From Bristol local paper, Geography has helped, as Bristol is within striking distance of the village of Tetbury, where Wilson has called home for the last two years, and clearly his preference was to remain in the West Country. He has a young family very much settled in the area, and there is already a familiarity with the city, which you and I both know would be a major draw for any sensible human being.
I am once again devastated we haven't signed a player I have never watched and had never heard of until about 3 weeks ago
I guess everyone is different in how much they follow football. Some just watch their team , others the big games too whilst a few live , breathe and sleep football and have all the stats/info on lots of players .
If you support Watford and have seen a L2 player play more than 3 times i'd suggest you have a problem haha
Sorry but that can't be right, because @LouOrns said only a couple of days ago that he's a Bristol City fan...
Exactly. Usual suspects wetting the bed as we haven’t signed anyone yet, and taking every opportunity to put the club down. If I felt that way, I would simply stop watching
Yes it's possible. However from the weight of evidence I'll generally go with Pozzo and Duxbury being arrogant individuals who are running the club into the ground while looking after their personal network's interests and Udinese. Our football club's well being not at the top of the list of priorities. That will be my default position on every decision unless shown otherwise, and 90% of the time it's going to be correct in my opinion. I do accept Edwards may have made a judgement call on this one, or player wanted to stay in the area though.
Well people seem to know good detail about an awful lot of players on here - or maybe read the stats off Football manager and other sources!
We had a very similar set of substandard players with the same weak mentality, poor physical conditioning 2 years ago. Still got promoted pretty comfortably with a history-making defensive record, once we got a HC that instilled a positive mindset
