I thought at the time it was a penalty, saw it on SSN after the game and thought it was a penalty and watford world confirmed to me it was a penalty ( IMO). Jay was very lucky IMO. A decision that has gone our way, which had it been given would really have shattered the players and fans.

The turning point and a thank you to the ref. Some redemption.

Good news! I'd like to think that it was an absolute certain penalty and that this means OUR LUCK HAS CHANGED. Be afraid Reading, be very afraid!;D

No penalty from where I was sitting watching it on Sky. The guy did his absolute best to make it look like on though - watch how he leaves his standing leg trailing...

Watch how Jay looks up at the ref. He made contact after the ball had gone. Jay did initially touch the ball, the ball went loose Jay was falling and made contact , the saving grace may well be the city players actions. Still IMO it was a penalty and would have been given by most refs but for the publicity and ranting of our bad luck and decisions, this went in our favour.

Booo! You've got no soul! It must have been a penalty because our luck has changed. Reading will score two own goals on Saturday. I can't wait.

It's one of those that sometimes gets given and sometimes does not.

It would have been very harsh and Stuart Pearce said it wasn't.

I actually thoght we had a great shout for a handball penalty in the first half.

had it been the other way round certain people would still be doing their nut that we were robbed.

Actually all credit to Clattenburg he is one of the few refs this Season that has done well. I think he has reffed our games very well.

It was without doubt a penalty.. watch the replay as many times as you like wont stop there being a shirt pull.. no matter how little Jay pulled his shirt.. in the rules of the game theres only one decision.. penalty.
The saving grace was the overacting of the player fouled, had he just gone to ground softly then there may have been a chance he would have got it.. but that siad it was very subtle so the ref would most likely not had seen it.

Well, if you wanna talk technical infringements of the rules we'd never leave the Vic til 8pm after a Sat 3pm game - we'd be there so long! I think the more important thing to work on here is stopping Jay getting in to these awkward positions on a near gamely basis!

Agreed... which is why we have to front up and say if it was a penalty or not.. if we say no it wasnt and he thinks it wasnt he wont learn that he cant do that and get away with it...
I like Jay as a player and think he is great at his job but we cant afford to have him or any of the other defenders taking chances like that... it could so easily have gone the other way.

seeing it from where i was sitting on monday night it look at pen and im sure it did to most watford fans but once seeing it on sky i did have to watch it twice to fainly say it was not a pen and if it that pen was given i dont know what i would of done but i think that would be the end of watford season

A the end of the day though referees are told to use their common sense, as mark clattenberg did.

    It comes natural to him

I've seen em given, so is our luck changing? Lets hope so!

As for Jays tendency to rugby tackle opposing players, the poor lad can't help it, its in his genes.

After all he is a yank, and he is probably reverting to his youth, when he no doubt played "American Football", where it is the norm to make rugby style tackles ;D

    berkshirehorn presumably I upset/disappointed someone

watching in real time i think we all thought "oh sh*t - here we go again"

we were saved because Clattenburg knew the player was looking for the penalty when he felt Jay's hand on his shirt.

It's the second niaive challenge from Jay in a couple of weeks - he HAS to learn from it fast. Premiership strikers are very clever around the box.
