I love a new signing like this. The reaction at the start of threads like this is priceless, full of comments saying what a disaster of a signing this is despite probably not having seen him play in the last couple of years if ever.
Very similar to the Carlos Sanchez signing where one poster managed to remember him from one game 3 years previous, describing it as the worst performance by any player ever.
No nothing about this chap apart from what I’ve read in the last 30 mins but actually sounds like he might be what we need but guess we will see

 

Carlos Sanchez was passable for us, that's about it. Didn't play much and when he did was Generally OK, not much more.

We need to add more than a new Carlos Sanchez to our midfield.

 

I think he’s much better than some of the declining players we have on long contracts (Cleverley and Gosling). That doesn’t mean we should be happy about spending a transfer fee and giving a 34 year old a two year deal just because it’s better than previous mismanagement. Spend double and you get a player in his mid 20s with resale value.

It’s the usual poor decision making.

I think the spending double bit is the problem plus this guy at least has a proven track record. Unlikely to get a 25 year old with a proven top level record for £4m.

Okay is available for £4m (might be wrong). Sampdoria bloke £7m? Just seems false economy to me to get another old player with no resale. I’m assuming here this guy is replacement for the two I mentioned. If he’s in addition then all good because I do think he will be an improvement on Gosling and Cleverley.

Carlos Sanchez's good 45 minutes against Reading is right up there with Dele-Bashiru's promising 25 minutes, Brandon Mason's ten minutes where he put a tackle in when we were losing 4-0 and Dion Pereira's one semi dangerous cross when we were getting battered by Leicester in the pantheon of mystifyingly overrated short Watford careers. Funny that everyone remembers the 45 minutes where he steadied the ship a bit rather than how absolutely off the pace he was at Luton away.

 

Carlos Sanchez did the job he was brought in to do by-and-large. If this Kucka fellow does the same, then fine by me!

However, Sanchez was brought in when we were on the up in the league and we probably could and would have gone up without him. Kucka seems to be coming in when we are desperately unstable in CM and we need quality and preferably some youth as well.

I’m not against this signing per se. I just worry about the signals it sends out about our recruitment and also the length of contract is baffling. If we are hard up for money, is paying a fee for a 34yr old really that wise? I think these are all fair questions to be asked without sounding critical of the player himself.

Finally, and I know others have interpreted Duxbury’s words another way, but to me this is the most obvious sign anyone could need that the guy spouts utter b0llocks.

 

I'll like this deal IF we get Yokuslu too, if not, well, we'll probably desperately need to rehabilitate Hughes and keep Chalobah to stand a chance
