True. Generally it is the older more experienced players who adapt quicker to the English game than the younger ones
So far, if we assume Badu and Holebas join too, our summer signings seem to be very solid. Fair adjective to use? We still await a big, exciting signing or two, a headline-grabber, to go with them.
With the surname, that appears to be two spellings with the same pronounciation to me. José and Iosif are essentially the same name; different spellings.
Excellent signing from what I've seen. Didn't look out of place at Roma at all, bags of experience & a bargain price.
Presumably if his given name is written in Greek characters, then there will be differences in how it is translated in different languages as it will presumably be a phonetic translation. For example in France Vladimir Putin is Poutine (as Putin would have a similar pronunciation to Putain which means '*****' and is used as a very coarse expletive).
The video shows quite good skills in tackle and going forward. The Roma's fans are notoriously a bunch of spoiled crazy people which would think even Messi or CR7, in their team, are useless as soon as they miss a pass or a shoot. The transfer fee seems a bargain. His story, I just read from http://www.forzaroma.info/2015/01/0...iti-tatuaggi-per-raccontare-vita-unica/402405 , is quite interesting and explains his "late blossom". (also explains the double name thing) It's definitely a yes from me and I hope the deal will be done.
If Holebas and Badu turn out to be our next 2 signings, the 4 new players we would have signed so far this summer would boast 158 full international caps between them. #Malt's useless stat of the day!
Open mind about this guy! We have to ask is he passed his sell by date? But if he's not, his pedigree looks OK to me, and I'm sure the Pozzo's will have had him thoroughly checked out!
i luv a left back, and wilf n robbo apart, its a position we have really struggled with over the years. to think that we could sign a roma regular a few years ago. gotta luv the pozzos. big yes from me. badu next please.
I sure like to know what I'm getting before I part with my money. I can't imagine that changes when it's in the £m. Besides, Gino seems the thorough type that does his homework so I trust his judgement on this one. Eager to see what this guy can bring to the side.
If we manage to pick this guy up for £1.5m that will be an absolute steal. Physical, pacey, and clearly did enough to keep Ashley Cole out of the side this season (not that that would have been too hard at his age!). 2 year deal, small fee, minimal 'risk' associated really and looks as though he'd add a lot to our side both at the back and going forward. This time three years ago I never thought i'd see my 'little old Watford' offering £7m for a player capped by Argentina, or players like Kuzmanovic or Holebas. The Pozzo's are working their magic - lets hope this one comes off!
Christ, if the bloke can do a job like that for Roma at 30 and he's past it, i'd like to know what he was like at his "peak"!
Hasn't finished below 2nd place in the league in any of his last 5 seasons..though sadly I suggest joining us might upset that run!
I'm actually slightly more excited about this deal than the Perotti one as Perotti never sounded like he wanted to come here. Obviously Holebas hasn't said he does or doesn't either, but until then...
Or he'll be an incredible luck-charm to repeat the 82-83 season? :jumping1: Just joking! Times have changed in 30+ years. The gulf between top teams and "normal" teams has enlarged and feats like that (or similarly in Italy Verona winning serie A in 84-85 or Vicenza 2nd in 77-78) seem nowadays quite impossible. Yet ... it's nice to dream! (although I'd sign any moment for just safety, even as 17th and gained at last match)
Scrolling through the tweets of the guy I think Harris was talking about, he's called Ashley Cole terrible defensively, because Serie A is a different ball game. Jesus. A defender who's as good defensively as you can get and has, among others, been coached by Mourinho for years and excelled in Europe and internationally for his entire career, doesn't get Rudi Garcia's (in his second season in Serie A) or Serie A's idea of how to play LB... OK then. I think we can write his opinion off.
Hopefully he can change his name to John Lloyd Holbeck so we can pretend we signed an English player. He has two names already, might as well add a third tbh.
http://sportwitness.ning.com/forum/topics/agent-speaks-out-about-watford-s-interest-in-his-client Ffs he hasn't agreed a deal, another one who will reject us.
If its true that Holebas, Santon and Perotti have all rejected us that is pretty embarassing.. not ideal when we are trying to make the club look attractive to a similar calibre of players
