    Jay drops Hornets hint

JAY DEMERIT has shocked rock-bottom Watford by admitting he will leave if they are relegated.

The American defender, 27, has been one of the few stars in Aidy Boothroyd’s side this term. But he says will be open to offers if the club fails to beat the drop.

DeMerit, 27, said: “I hope we can stay up but it’s out of my hands. If there are Premiership teams that would be interested of course I’d talk to them.”

Gutted to read this. He has been one of my favourites. Although I suppose you couldn't really blame him if a Prem team put in an offer and we were relegated but I dont think he should have come out with this at this stage of the season.

If that is true and not made up by Gary Payne, I wouldn't play him any more this season. Out of his hands my ar5e! He could cut out the dodgy tackles in the penalty area if he wanted to help

Fine a player might want to improve his career but I don't even think Jay is really Premiership standard just yet....inexperience and makes a few mistakes.

Surely needs more time with us?

    Oh dear...

Jay has been fantastic for us and will definately with the right coaching and management develop into a very competent defender...

Just think at the moment, the only sort of clubs that will be interested, will be very similar in size etc to ourselves, but with premiership status..

He is only 27, so another year to develop, in this league or the Championship would not do him any harm at all, and then maybe a big club could quite rightly make a move for him!

Disappointed in him coming out with this now, whilst we are in the middle of a relegation scrap, which smacks of his own selfishness with no regard to the effect on the team!

If rumour true?.... NOT HAPPY!..... (Mariappa Shittu Mackay Stewart)

I think there is probably a bit of distorsion in the article. i.e.

Jay, will you leave Watford if a big premiership club puts in an accepted offer for you at the end of the season.
    Jay Yes.

    Reported as...

Jay says he will dump Watford if they do not have premiership status next year.

    Now which headline sells papers?

    Wow. The Sun.

The biggest problem with being an English football fan is ridiculous football "stories".

Any REAL news out there? Any?

plus the transfer window is now closed so the papers have no stories to write about regarding players.

if we were to go down, of course some players would be interested in staying in the prem, especially those with no connection to the local area and visions of becoming an international player.

Frankly if true this is a disgrace. We've been carrying Jay Demerit for half this season but I don't think one fan has really criticised him for his regular mistakes. People have realised he's inexperienced at this level and have given him some leeway. People have also bought into the dream that he has the potential to improve. Well frankly if this is his attitude he can shove it. **** off Jay.

Contracted until mid 2009 as far as I am aware. If we received a silly money bid for him then why not. Aidy better get Curbs' number ready.

Mariappa will never make a good centre half. He is full back material at best and he needs to show signs of improvement.

In all honesty I would have liked to have seen out on a season's loan to a league one or championship club, getting regular football and learning his trade out of the headlights of the premiership.

Jay has had a tough season but then again so have most our players.

I disagree that he won't be missed - right now we have Malky, Shittu and Jay. Jay is the only one with any pace and Mariappa is not a centre half at this level. Malky can not play next season - he is already too slow. Forget Clarke Carlisle who was only in and out of the team even when fit.

Apart from strikers I think this is the position that Aidy has to worry about most in the Summer.

Think (thought?) the world of JD, but would swop him for Upson's transfer fee.
Sure we can get a work permit sorted out for the Peruvian by then. Hope he likes the cold.

I fully expect that this quote was taken completely out of context. I also do not think that there is a Prem side that would want him.

Am I the only one pleased with this news? I think he's totally out of his depth a this level anyway! No other decent prem club will come in for him...he'll be in a relegation battle next season with a newly promoted club at best!

Respect the fact we took you out of obscurity into Prem football within 2 seasons...he's made a rod for his own back!

Good ridance Jay, I would have carted you off in the summer anyway pal! Not good enough and Shittu has been carrying you most of the season and covering your mistakes!

Ciao you yank tool! Hope he get's a good booing today!

he can fark off if he has that attitude, the chap was living off toast and in an actic untill we came along,he was skint and if it wasn't for us picking him up at Northwood he'd most likely be back at America living with his mummy!

  24. The Rous

If this is true then he can **** right off and shouldn't be involved with the club any longer. This is a complete lack of disrespect to the club that took him into the premiership from non-league obscurity. Shittu and Malky for the rest of the season for me. Who else will be booing him today?

I really hope that if he really did say that, then he didn't mean it in the way it comes over. He's done very very well, but he's still got a lot to learn. Hopefully he's been taken out of context or it's simply been made up. Wouldn't be the first time The Sun has printed fictional quotes.

i think what he is saying is, if a club that is say top 10 in the premiership then of course he would talk to them.
im not happy about him saying 'its out of my hands' because he can put in good performances to try and stop us getting relegated.
i think like someone said earlier their will be something from him soon on the watford website or sky with him saying its rubbish and not what he said.

I speak to Jay a bit, he's a nice bloke and to be honest I just can't imagine this being true... However, if he has actually said what's been reported, then he can just **** off back to America, because at this stage in the season, with the situation we're in, we don't need anyone with a s****y attitude like that

    Steady! UEA,

I double check the date in the Sun, which is an absolute rag - Sky may well have picked it up from them.

Jay has been a phenomenal buy for us in terms of cost and performances - the history has already been written.

If some of our new acquisitions provide the same level of value we will be playing in Europe. ;D

Keiran, I hear what you're saying fella, but I think Skysports is extremley reliable...whether they picked it up from the sun or not 99% of the time they're usually correct!

I just think it's disgusting to say this sort of thing at a crucial stage of the season! Hardly an ideal time to say it!

Even if he did do it, i certainly wouldn't blame him for wanting to go to a prem team IF (which i dont think will happen) should one come in for him. He came over here very ambitious, he got lucky that we helped him in that hugely and im sure he'd be greatful but wants to play at the top which is fair enough, unfortunately loyalty rarely exists in football, as long as he doesn't leave solely for money, i will not mind
