Ismael says his mantra is to sign “the right player” (for his system) rather than the flashiest or most expensive. In other words don’t judge a new signing per se but on whether he fits into the specialist playing style required. He’s worked with Livermore before and if you trust in Ismael to be a good appointment then you have to trust in his knowledge and confidence in signings like this one. I’ve had my say extensively on the managerial topic and while I continue to covet the current Nice manager, Ismael is ours and I trust in him to bring in the kind of players he needs for us to succeed in his somewhat unique playing system.
I’ve never seen you make a positive post. All are either negative or sarcastic. Do you even like Watford FC?
Yeah f*** it why not. We need a ball-winner and I’m glad we’re getting deals done early. As long as Styles still comes in then we’re good.
Choudhury last season showed how a ball-winner who can't actually do anything when on the ball is of limited benefit. Livermore seems to be not quite as good as Choudhury at winning the ball and somehow even more useless with the ball. If he's going to be a first choice CM for us it's a real step back for the team. Don't think Styles will add the steel we're missing either.
Are the midfielders this season going to be asked to pull off difficult passes though? They might just want him to either play it simple to Louza/Asprilla/Ince or hoof it long to the forwards
Choudhury seemed allergic to playing forward passes, even a long ball, and Livermore appears to suffer from the same affliction. We saw last season that it really compromised our ability to attack teams with someone like Choudhury in midfield who always has to wait to lay the ball off to someone else, by which point the opponent is usually back in their defensive shape.
Sometimes truth hurts I think Jumbolina is right liverless is too old , wasn't that great in his prime ,I'm 57 and probably not much slower than him ,but you wanna be a happy clapper fill ya boots !
Choudhury’s limitations would’ve been fine if he’d been used in a system that covered for them. But because we didn’t have the right coaches, or we didn’t have the right players (or both), that never really happened. If Livermore can do a similar job, but with Louza/Asprilla/Styles around him and a proper plan for how to use possession, then I think he could be useful.
Our transition into Stoke is almost complete. A couple more mid-table finishes as the last of our talent moves on, and we’ll be right there.
well get off the bus then and potentially get back on the day a new regime eventually takes over. I was once one of the four people that drove a small club (not football). Overnight the whole fabric of the club changed to something I and the other 3 didn’t like. We all left. Did we continue to comment, turn up at AGMs and criticise from the back seat. No we all left, as being so anti is tiring and really unhealthy for your mind and wellbeing.
Well most players will have their limitations . Even some good ones. But yes I guess it is a worry if a footballer cannot pass the ball with his foot ! I think most certainly at the top level should be two footed too .
Would Ismael know him from the WBA connection? Maybe he feels Livermore is the one to bring experience and steal to the midfield but at 33..
Yes he would. Livermore played 38 times in the league the season Ismaël was Brom manager up to February.
Unlike Edwards last summer and Bilic probably fair to say Ismael had a part to play in the deal then. Means he will be under even more pressure then if it starts badly!
This. Getting some really late 2000, early 2010’s vibes with these signings, where we were firmly mid table fodder. Should we be surprised though?
Yes looking in from outside it certainly seems that way, along with the proposed Styles deal. As I posted earlier, Ismael’s mantra seems to be that he wants players that are right for his system rather than players that might appear better ones in their own right. He obviously feels Livermore is the right player for what he wants to achieve, even if a majority of us aren’t impressed by this signing. All well and good until he gets fired and the next coach is stuck with a load of dross alien to the way he wants to get us playing I guess.
Our transition into what we once were is almost complete now. Just one more season of medicore football with bang average players' and Gino would of taken us full circle. I would love to be proven wrong, but these latest "rumors" do very little to inspure confidence that we were looking to refresh the side with a younger side hungry to take us forward. Time will tell, but from the outside looking in Ismael is playing a system he has to get right from match day one. If the players' don't buy into it or cannot do it, this entire Window is wasted.
