Not really. He's likely to get involved with their "...£50 says I can put in a worse performance than you..." gambling syndicate. And win.
I'm not sure he's what we need in the middle either though, even on form - we're most desperately in need of a goal threat from attacking central midfield and Wilshere is definitely not that. The other area of CM which we could improve on a bit is shielding the back four, and Wilshere isn't that either. Capoue could be if he is fit enough though. The balance in the midfield isn't right - Chalobah, Cleverley and Garner are all #8s really (as is Hughes). If we're going to play 3 in the middle it should be a #6, #8, and #10. Capoue is our only real #6 and we don't have a #10. Were we to play two in the midfield, then Capoue and Hughes should work for that. Wilshere would only make sense if Hughes is leaving and we only plan on playing 2 in the middle, otherwise a #10 should still be more of a priority.
This may well be part of the best post on the thread, but I havn't got a clue what it is on about. We DO have a #10, Pedro, and Capoue is ~29, not a #6. Must be a "Football Manager" thing?
Haha. Surely given your age you'll be aware of what numbers usually referred to back in the days when starting players all just wore numbers 1-11? #6 = DM (occasionally also used for CBs), e.g. Kante, Roy Keane #8 = regular, all-round CM (a bit more box-to-box), e.g. Lampard, Modric #10 = attacking central midfielder or second striker, e.g. Bruno Fernandes, Bergkamp (P.S. JP can also play as a #10 positionally, but he's still too inconsistent right now)
The point about balance is right and one I was making at the start of the season. Look at the skillset of 14/15, they complemented each other so well. Toszer - sat in front of back four, set piece expert, good at long passing Watson - shielded back four, good tackler/disrupter Guedioura - box to box, capable of bursting past opposition, putting foot in, threat of a long shot, good crosser Munari - good short passer and would arrive in the box well Layun - never quite clicked but kept the ball well and covered the ground well Abdi - the maestro. Long shots, through balls, set pieces, the creative fulcrum. Our current options don't have multiple of these skills. They're all too samey.
It's amazing how despite lacking many of these skills, but we'd probably be in the automatic spots if we had a midfielder who could finish. Cleverley alone gets about 2 clear goal scoring opportunities a game and always scuffs it wide.
Yes, for the tournament he was selected for because his name was Jack Wilshere despite the fact he'd started 2 games in a year. Primarily the reason our fanbase will mass-ejaculate when he signs. They love to gobble up former Arsenal players as they know so much about them and use their first names when describing them on social media.
I wanted to like this *BUT* we can dream about getting an ex-gooner to join us for the twilight of career and imagine he ends up playing the best football of his sporting life with us... Someone out there must be able to take on the Pat Rice role...
Looking at brining in a midfielder, as well as a left back. Vladimir Ivic poised for Watford transfer talks | Watford Observer
Maybe lost in translation but this quote from Ivic in the Wobby today “I have to speak with the board of the club, and the people who need to take information from me about what we need,” said Ivic. “We did four months ago the same" So 16 days before the window opens, and he has not spoken to the board yet about what he wants, and the last time he spoke to them about transfers was 4 months ago.
And he specifically said he was after a creative midfielder. I hope we sign him on a six month contract, he helps get us promoted by playing some passes that actually go forwards and then we bin him off before next season.
The thing is, he's an out of contract player. If we wanted to sign him there's nothing to stop us getting him now. But maybe it's a case of moving one out first to free up some money for salary, as I doubt he'll come cheap.
Number 6 protects those at the back Number 10 is closer to attack And number 8 is centre of the pack My Christmas gift to you all
All I can say is that if Jack wheelchair is the answer, then it must have been a stupid bloody question.
That’s what’s wrong with football, just because he played twice for England and use to play for Arsenal it shouldn’t demand he earns stupid money, unfortunately it seems it does, it didn’t work out at West Ham or Bournemouth for him why should we be any more successful, another Jack Rodwell situation I’m afraid!
As if we would ever be so stupid as to take on an injury jinxed ex arsenal and England player and expect him to make any sort of contribution outside of drawing his wages. You seriously underestimate Gino.
Exactly. I'd have no issue with Wilshire joining us, especially in the wake of Capoue going. We need quality to replace him on a free, which Wilshire is. My heart will sink if Capoue goes and the club come out with a line that they'll make do with what they've got. Hughes is obviously a bit of a star for us, but he's slowly coming back from injury. We all know a player like this is bound to pick up secondary injuries if used heavily during this process. Chalobah's poor form has gone on for too long to expect him to ever recover his best days as a young player. Cleverley is playing at his maximum, which is just about good enough, but he's never going to get any better. Garner is not really good enough IMO and Quina is out injured, plus is a bit up and down in form. We need a Capoue type of player, who will break up play and deliver a good range of passing, especially if we play just two in midfield. If we overlook this and expect to get more from the players we currently have, it's not likely to work out well......unless we sign a more clinical striker who will take chances. If that happens we may just get away with it.
Jason Tindall has said Wilshere approached them about training with the club, not the other way around. Would be an odd thing to do you if he was close to joining us as surely he’d just ask us? Or have us put him on a solo training plan? Tindall hasn’t ruled out signing him though and has openly said he’s got no money to spend and has to be ‘creative’ in the window.
