It's not just a manager we have lost

But also an advocate for our town.

We all know Watford is not the most glamorous of clubs, and isnt exactly the most picturesque place to live in, but that didnt matter to Aidy.

He had nothing but good things to say about our club and town, and was very much a part of this community. Look at all the stuff he did for local charities such as The Peace Hospice - how many managers give up their own time to do these sort of things.

He always encouraged his players to do the same, and one thing he would always do was give you his time and attention.

He always held himself well in the media, never slagging off referees and never bringing the club into disrepute (ok, there were a couple of incidents, but 99% of managers would have reacted the same).

I think what upsets me most is the man we have lost. A man who wanted to win, but wanted to win fairly. A man who was one of us, who would come on the pitch and rally the fans, who wrote to us every week in his emails - they may only seem small things, but these things make Aidy the man he is.

Yesterday was a sad day for Watford FC. I agree something had to be done to stop the club going down a slippery slope, but i think it was higher up that the problem lies.

Bye for now Aidy, no doubt you will come back to haunt us in the future.

He liked it here so much he kept his family in Worcestershire.

    Ditto Ashton.

I agree with most of that.

Don't be taken in by it all. Aidy is very smart and will say and do the same as he progresses in his career. We were always going to be a stepping stone for his ambitions.

Most managers and players get heavilly involved in all sorts of charities, it's just not advertised as much as the bad news. I bet for every 1000 things the players do the 1 bad is publicised by the press.

Your right it is a sad day but the right choice was made for the club long term

I've got to agree with all of that, great post.

Whilst the opening post tempted me to reach for a onion and sob along merrily, nothing about him suggests to me that he wasn't genuine.

He hasn't proved to be up there with Taylor, but he has been the manager most like him, on and off the pitch.

He has been good value at times and if I ever need a laugh there's always the Fitz Hall spat to watch on youtube to cheer me up.
